So my Mojo 2 arrived today and after about 4 hours of comparing to my iFi xDSD Gryphon with Focal Celestee and Focal Clear OG headphones and MacBook pro and iPhone, I can already say without a doubt the Mojo 2 is a big step up and if you don't need the extra stuff the Gryphon gives you (BT, MQA, a screen, balanced headphone jack, cheaper) buy the Mojo 2 you will not be disappointed. Also learned the colours for most used things already.

The agility and layering in the bass really surprised me on first listen.

I love the musicality of the mojo 2. Also use EQ more than I thought. It’s fun but also very functional when you have some treble happy cans!

The Mojo 2's EQ is also great for cans lacking bass

Just to add fuel to the fire on which is best Mojo 2 or Hugo 2 have a listen to "Hania Rani - Buka" Mojo 2 clearly beats Hugo 2 its just so much better at reproducing all the complex transients (clicking, synth? throughout and piano nuances) in that track and others.

Never mind the Bass is better in Hugo 2 and the Midrange is better, that is just a cop-out posted by HeadFier's that don't know any different, I want to hear the Piano and the full details in this and other track's "pop" and it certainly does with Mojo 2 but not so much with Hugo 2.

Just my opinion of course but I like what I hear with my Mojo 2.

I have Poly/Mojo2 and 2Go/Hugo2 and would say that the extra cost doesn't buy much they are very close.
Interesting. While Mojo 2 is excellent, Hugo 2 still trumps it for me. It has a few advantages too with 2Go having an ethernet port and 2 SD card slots.

it seems like many of us hear quite differently. Fair enough and we should trust our experiences as to whether we hear differences as worth it or not. So many variables to consider that it’s tough to relate to what everyone thinks. I find Hugo2/2Go much better in a few ways that are very important to me. To me it sounds easily worth the extra. 🤷‍♂️

I want to extol my new favorite, portable pairing. The Mojo 2 and Cascades. They go together like peanut butter and jelly. The Cascades are bass monsters done right. Yes, they have an elevated bass response, but it doesn't murk up the rest of the frequency spectrum and isn't muffled. When paired with the Mojo 2 it's the other sonic attributes of this headphone that come to the forefront. The beryllium drivers of the Cascades adds the detail, clarity, and speed to really balances out the sound. The Cascades just stands out from any other headphones I've heard at this price point.

This is the portable sound I've been searching for; fun, energetic, detailed, dynamic, good instrument separation, good resolution, and great clarity. Pairing the Cascades with a Mojo 2 is such a fun, entertaining listen.

Lots of interesting takes on Hugo2 vs Mojo2.
Now that I've experienced Mojo 2, I'm definitely interested in trying / reviewing the Hugo 2 but a couple of things are stopping me for buying it outright.
Mainly that It's due for a refresh. Chord seams to have a 7 year refresh cycle and next year the Hugo 2 turns 7. Just assuming Chord will give Hugo 3 USB C, increase the amount of taps and add that sweet lossless EQ that I find invaluable. I wonder if they'll ditch micro usb ports or keep them for compatibility with 2Go? I hope they ditch and make a new 2Go with an ethernet port still implemented. So unless someone lends me a Hugo 2 to test, I'm going to hold out. Not that the Mojo 2 leaves me wanting mind you, I effing cherish this thing :L3000:

I would be delighted to hear that a Hugo3 was in the pipeline, but none of the hints that Chord have dropped in recent interviews, appear to be a Hugo3.

I can’t see a Hugo3 anytime soon, either, but I’d be very happy to be wrong. On the point of a refresh cycle, Mojo2 was delayed two years by the pandemic, so I don’t think a 7 year rule can be applied.

I'd agree with this also. Mojo2 and Hugo2 are not night and day difference, and in some case - synergy dependent - Mojo2 performs better.

I sold my Hugo2Go recently because I came to the conclusion that Mojo2 with Mass Kobo 428 actually outperforms Hugo2. After that, I couldn't justify keeping Hugo2Go. Of course, Mass Kobo 428 is as expensive as a Hugo2, so there's also that.

In addition, Mojo2 paired with Hiby RS2 as transport, you have x2 SDCards, coax connection, and - for me - a much nicer interface than Bubbleupnp etc, which I never liked using on Hugo2Go.

Mark my words, 2024 Hugo 3!
If I'm wrong I'll eat something gross for you guys:dt880smile:. The upgrades they made to the Mojo make $4000 CAD for Hugo 2 a tough pill to swallow. I know they're working on a money no limit dac but I'm also willing to bet Rob Watts has a Hugo 3 prototype on his desk as I type this. Always forward!

I think at any one time Rob has many prototypes of different products on the go in his design/testing space.
Don't forget the other half of the equation, which is that it needs John Franks to say words to the effect 'Rob I need product x to be designed and ready for production on date y'.
In theory a prototype could sit there for years, waiting for the 'go' from John Franks.
Just think back a few years, to the posts from Rob suggesting that the digital amp would be ready in one year, but John Franks then posting that the digital amp would not appear for several years at the earliest.
