Got a Chord Mojo 2 recently that I've been using as a desktop DAC with my mac and a Violectric V222. Love the sound - but maybe once every two days - the audio is suddenly turning to static hiss. If I unplug and replug the USB cable (using USB C in for the data) it goes away immediately. Have used two different USB C cables thinking that could be the issue, and it's repeatable. I suppose next up I'll use 3.5 or micro usb for my in to see if it's repeatable there with a different in as well - but curious if this is something anyone here has run into, and if so, if there were any solutions. Thanks!

It’s most definitely the USB-C cable. I have one where within 5-10 mins of connecting, I get the hiss. But if I flip the cable in my iPhone and the Mojo - I can go all day without an issue.

I’ve also got a bulletproof cable (DDHIFI TC07S OTG) that I never have to worry about - at least I’ve never had an issue with my cable.

One other option is to go optical - I’ve been using a Cubilux USB-C to SPDIF (I found mine on Amazon) and then an inexpensive optical cable of your choice!

I'd figured it was the USB cable, but sadly - I picked up a DDHIFI one as well, and still having the same issue with that cable.

Is your Mac M1 or later processor? Did you get the firmware update to your Mojo2?

There is a known white noise issue with the Mac M1 processor (and likely the later ones as well) that requires a FW update if you are having white noise issues. The update is free, but I believe you have to pay for shipping.

Using an M2 Max, so wonder if firmware is the issue. Thanks for letting me know about that, I'll have to look into updating that.

I've found that certain USB devices just don't play nicely with the Mojo 2. My phone, for example, requires a very specific boot and connection order, otherwise I get the white noise issue. Like me, you might be able to find a workaround just by methodically trying different permutations of power-up order.

This is the regional Chord distributor that does the upgrade.

I don't know if or when Chord implemented the new firmware. Good luck.

No joke, try the Apple USB C cable that comes with the new iphones. I've had two Mojo2 and always used this cable, never had the common static issue. Not hifi-marketed or anything, but it's a high quality cable that won't cause the issue. I use an M1 Max for computer and iphone and haven't ever encountered the static burst.

+1 for this cable from Apple, I am using this cable for all my dac/dongle. This cable is surprisingly soft, flexible, the connectors are very very solid, and the cable is light so it does not cause pressure on the socket of the devices. There is a black version that comes with the iPad Pro M4, you can try to find someone selling it

Never happened to me.
Using it on Android smartphone and Surface Pro7 with a "cheap" Sony charging cable (micro USB) with the short iFi otg adapter cable (usb-c). :ok_hand:

Was it a new Mojo2? Quite some time back there was an update related to a noise problem specific with Mac. Worth checking with Chord if your combination is problematic.

Edit: I see Daniel already posted about this.
