I’ve used the thunderbolt cable in your described circumstance. It works well, but it’s pretty thick and bulky. I never had white noise issue.
Copy that, understood! Thank you for your feedback here. Did you go for the apple branded? Did you try the usbc to usbc charging cable? Wondering about a potential difference there too. Thanks again

Yes.
Only because I had one lying around. I bought the shorter thunderbolt cable (0.5m) for another application. I’m sure the Amazon basics will work well too. I use a longer one with my MacBook Pro connected to 4k display no issues. That’s a ton more bandwidth than audio. 🤣

I currently use a cayin usb c to usb c super short cable with no issues.

a) presumably you didn't buy the Poly for Mojo 2, but for Mojo 1, so that should not be a given, otherwise as others have pointed out, that line of reasoning would be never ending

b) why not offer some sort of adapter for the poly instead of the big "screw you" joke way in which they threw in a usb c port; when I first saw that picture I thought it was the biggest photoshop joke
I don’t understand what the problem is with thee USB C implementation. Does it cause problems? Or is it just an aesthetics issue?

Doesn’t USB C use up a great deal more real estate than micro? There’s bugger all room inside mojo now, and I wonder if going double USB C would’ve necessitated a larger Mojo 2 or a complete rearrangement of the internals?

I am not going to reply to anyone in particular because this topic seems to get some folks a bit hot under the collar when the much loved Mojo 2 gets criticised and I don’t want anyone to think I am responding to them specifically.

USB implementation.

Nobody that is critical of the USB implementation of the Mojo 2 actually has a problem with the functionality of it. The port is there, it works, that can’t be argued.

I think all those that jump to Chords defence on this topic, and pretend to be asking a “genuine question” about the criticism of the USB functionality, fully understand that equally well, they just don’t like to see their favourite device criticised.

The criticism from us detractors is only that it is just ridiculous that a small personal portable hifi product released for sale at the start of 2022 uses anything other than USB-C, the complete and utter standard on practically any electronic equipment of any type by practically any manufacturer.

Yes, a USB-C jack surrounded in rubber, and incorporated into the area where one of the feet was previously but was removed to make space for the port because there was no other room (poorly worded for effect !) will work that is obvious to all parties from either point of view. Hardly elegant design though is it ?

The detractors point is simply that this implementation utterly screams “design compromise to accommodate another device that I don’t care about” and some people will choose to buy something else on principle more than any tangible negative caused by it.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that opinion. Also absolutely nothing wrong with being happy with the Mojo 2 despite that design compromise, nobody is debating that. Absolutely nothing wrong with stating that the obvious compromise is the reason someone decided against the Mojo 2 and offer that in discussion where appropriate.

I am pretty confident that even Chord would acknowledge it is a compromise they would have preferred not to make.

Is there any place that says this forum has to be only positive discussion and comments and one shall not post about aspects of the device they don’t like ?

The decision was a commercial one. One that benefitted Chord only!
I bet they had a good stockpile of Poly's, and they didn't want to redesign it either.
If they managed to put two micro-USB sockets, a USB-C and a full size Toslink and an SPDIF, I am sure they could have fitted two USB-C sockets and a combo SPDIF/Toslink without much difficulty.
Now, I am not a design engineer, but I do know about circuits used. By using micro USB for power, one is limited to 5V. Mojo2 requires over 8V to operate.
This means a DC-DC upconverter, which takes more space compared to using a USB-C for power which inherently supports 10V (edit: 9V or more) and more. Having to work with 9V or 15V is easier than upconverting. Also, you could implement a really fast charging, as USB-C supports much higher currents too.
On the audio front, USB-C has nothing over any other type of USB, whatsoever!
But its reversibility is a bonus.
Bottom line, apart from convenience, there is nothing wrong with the way Mojo2 works, but ....
It could have been tidier and more convenient.

Here you go. It’s all answered in the first four minutes of his chat with Darko.

I hadn't listened to that before. Interesting that Rob says to accommodate 2 x USB-C in the same small size as Mojo OG, would have meant dropping one of the other ports, namely optical, due to the internal length of USB-C. He wasn't prepared to do that. He also wasn't prepared to compromise on separate charging and data ports. It sounds like that left the possibility to lengthen Mojo 2's body, or stick with Micro-USB (which pleases Chord, and Poly users) & keep the charging input (Micro-USB) separate for better audio (pleases everyone).
Never going to please everyone, so it seems the best compromise. Personally, I didn't like the aesthetic when Mojo 2 was released. Now, I couldn't care less.
I just listen to it. Though I do find myself charging with Micro-USB, but almost always use a USB-C cable for the audio. For my simple mind it's easier than plugging into the wrong Micro-USB port.
