To be clear, I'm not hating on the DAVE or its power supply, I'm just sharing info about it. I own the DAVE, I don't hate it, why would I buy something I hate.

Theres a difference between buying from mouser (or any electronic supply store in the west) in 50 piece or even a hundred piece type quantites and ordering literally thousands from the Factory in China directly. So, ok maybe not $10, but $25? Very very likely.

And yes, thats the exact power supply in the DAVE.

"The stock SMPS I had extracted from the DAVE (see photo) had the -15V line rated at 0.5A, and I'd expect there would be a substantial safety margin on that."

For a smallish company like Chord, ordering thousands of power supplies, represents a lot of money tied up in stock.

Honestly, who the hell cares how much the PSU costs? The Dave sounds incredible.
I agree. Its why I've never considered buying a sean jacobs or Farad PSU replacement. I was just trying to share info about the PSU in the DAVE and how its not some super fancy unit. At the end of the day, I really like how the DAVE sounds stock (even without the Mscaler) and thats all the really matters to me.

I've gone down the M-Scaler rabbit hole and can't escape. I keep testing it and every time I turn on that bypass I have to turn it off again in seconds. I must be crazy sensitive to transient timing.

The trolling that’s permitted in this thread is quite astonishing.

For good comparisment you have to remove the scaler completely letting it in the chain it will keep that scaler sound in the dave. A good trail is a scaler in the chain and out of the chain. Somewhat work but else you ears will not reset.

The trolling is the price we have to pay to make sure that contributions that are in fact well-founded criticisms are not suppressed.

We need people coming in from all angles to keep the conversation entertaining and informative.

The degree of censorship that would be necessary to stop all trolling would kill the thread.

I don't have to do any such thing. I know I like it much more with the M-Scaler engaged. And that's all I need to know.

Yes.

And also, the vehement anti-Chord sentiment by the invading ASR pinball wizards (deaf, dumb and broke) is a legitimate part of the Chord story. I'm not sure any other brand has faced such an organized resistance?

Maybe the only other brand I've seen trashed this way is PS Audio, boy do they hate that brand starting with the cult leader and then all his minions. 😂. The trashing I've seen wow, crazy.

PS Audio is mid-fi sound quality at hi-fi pricing. Most of the people who buy PS Audio are new to the hobby and don't know what they are doing. What did you expect?
