The K501's really good, but I wouldn't go as far as calling it the best for less than $250. The K501's not a good all-arounder.

Might as well include women to the list. It's hard to have an informed opinion on the hi end, when you listened to one hi end headphone.. The 701.. Or and the AD700, if you want to put them in that category.

The only problem with them is the black coating on the pads all flaked off.

I should be getting the Pioneer SE-L 40. Near mint condition.. Has it's own case like the W5000. 70.00. Circ 71-74.

My everyday walking and plane and train 'phones are the Denon AH-C351k, dear to me despite the lack of clarity and precision, the lack of clarity is made up for by low price and a wonderfully fun, creamy listening experience.

Koss KSC75...i love them and the best buy of all headphones i feel.
The cheapest ones i can most likely be satisfied with, especially when amped well.
Sold anywhere from $13.99usd - 24.99. Koss price $19.99.
Also LifeTime Gauranteed.

I agree 100%. These even stand up in a lot of ways to my AD900s, believe it or not, for $266 less.

seriously, the value of these is insane. $12.99 shipped from ebay, you simply can't beat that.

X2

HARX700 best value for me. I liked the AD700 but not the lack of bass - still was a great phone for the price.

K501. I tried and sold K701 and HD650 with GS Solo + Rega CDP, but am happily living with K501 / faulty LD II+ / old Sony CDP combo.
