I'll go for a pair of mono. here is the email i received from the seller :

"yes, i can build 50K attenuator
stereo is USD:49.99
mono pair is USD:57.30"

For this price, I'd have to be crazy to refuse

well, yes but :

1st : soundwize they only compare to the alps blue according to reviews;
2nd : the shaft is "unusual";
3rd : they're not ladder type and don't use high quality resistors
4th : solidity and lifetime aren't that great according to some reports;
5th : you're not sure to get the one you want, you could have to order more;
6th : channel matching is not that great according to Tangent findings.

edit : furthermore, it's now established that they're not alps but are coming from a chinese factory, the link was given in another thread

Has anyone compared the feel of Grayhill .vs. Elma rotary switches?

In other news, Elma is now selling their own stepped attenuators, with either leaded or surface mount resistors. Sorry for the lack of specific links, the Elma website seems broken - copied links do not bring up the appropriate pages.

I was at Elma's site recently and couldn't "make heads or tails" out of all the options. Thanks for narrowing the selection. I like that series R ladder attenuator.

If you look at the offerings by Percy Audio, he notes that there are a couple different Elma switches (for example), one which is more money, but has zero contact bounce, and is designed specifically for attenuator construction. Many are still made on the otherwise similar Elma that does have bounce.

In the earlier post talking about the stepped fake alps attenuators (the drawbacks), it should be noticed that there is a clicking to be heard when changing the volume. Some don't mind it, but I found it unsuitable. These must have massive contact bounce! I bought a a pair of them, and one is installed in a META I use in my workbench for tesing purposes. I hate the stepped Alps in it. The $3 Panasonic pot would be an upgrade overall, of not in channel matching. Buyer beware the fake Alps.
