I built the Bottlehead version. It came with two sets of resistors for two different ranges of attenuation. Assembly was not difficult, and aside from the limit of twelve positions, it work just fine. The resitors are generic metal film. Given a choice I would go for the more position types, for better control over the levels between steps, but the price makes it attractive.

edit- I should also point out that the Bottlehead is a series type attenuator.

Mike Percy sells a kit based on the Swiss-made Elma rotary (23 positions) with good resistors for about the price of the first unit you posted.

And the Elma switch is much nicer, at least judging from the appearance of that one in the first pic.

EDIT: But I see that the one you post is a ladder, the Elma kit is series. The Ladder type is priced more along the lines of buying a Dact based on the same switch. Not that series is bad, but $75 for a ladder is REAL cheap.

Whoa. Stepped *LADDER* attenuators with Vishay RN60D resistors for $50?! Methinks that's a hell of a find!

That ebay seller even sells mono attenuators for around $60 per pair! Actually, i would like to build my own, but for the price, the prebuilt one is still good.

So these attenuators are kits that includes the resistors? Or are they built and ready to go? These attenuators are available only in the 100k version?

Heh, yeah, screw up a ladder attenuator and you're going to have a lot of fun trying to desolder that one resistor buried in the middle...

I don't think these are kits though. I think it says "fully built" or equivalent in the auction description.

Of course, that wouldn't happen to ME!

Fully assembled. The majority that kyc111 has sold have been 100k, but I have seen him/her offering other values occasionally.

Thanks, arteitle. That was the confirmation I just received from kyc.
