Get a used Mac Mini.

Later on when you want more serious juice out of it. Buy a good PSU for it like Teradak.

Best ROON endpoint money can buy.

I didn't want to use a Pc, so i made a streamer using a Raspberry Pi 4, a 7" touchscreen and a case. Using Volumio as the OS, i can control it via tablet or cellphone as well. I store my files on a M.2 SSD connected through an Usb to the Raspberry and it can access files via NAS too.

All of this goes to a Fiio K7 Dac via Usb.

I agree with the sentiments regarding a Raspberry Pi -- just add your favorite software (I recommend Ropieee). Can't beat the price/performance/flexibility at less than $100 with case.

I got a couple of these Gateway laptops which are terrific for music, and honest 10-11 hour battery life:

They're fast enough for playback, browsing or email, but nothing serious. No fan, just a heatsink. Only 2.4ghz though for Wifi. It's convertible so neat to display cover art and the screen is fantastic. Not for gaming though, the CPU is efficient, but not for heavy lifting. Weighs next to nothing for travel.

I suggest (and I work in IT as a computer technician) the MeLe Quieter 4C. It has a 12th gen intel N series CPU so it's plenty fast, 256GB of storage, 8GB of RAM, which is enough for music streaming, and it is upgradeable via SD card. Also, it has USB C and the best part is its completely fanless. Absolutely no moving parts, so less noise both audibly and electrically. This is your best bet. I have an old mele quieter 2Q and it is an excellent machine. Should cost about 200-300 Euros, which is what you're going to be paying for most of these machines.
