Wow nice pricing on the mini m8.

I was considering buying one of those when I saw the i5 campaign.
Sadly if I bought the mini m8 this would make the Skyn redundant for me.
Decisions decisions.

Personally I like the idea of both the case and the generic device.
would we expect the same level of sound from the generic version? With it have its own battery still? As given its size and potential output power, how do you plan on getting a big enough battery and audio gear into 2 matchboxes?

I opted for the $178? Campaign. Would this mean committing another $199 for the generic or would my original pledge cover it (or all but $21 of it)

The generic will need to include more stuff, like a cable or a special jack, so it's $199 and that's a near loss already.

It will have the battery. One matchbox is circuitry, the other is battery. It will be the smallest portable iDevice DAC/Amp with awesome sound. Tech will be the same in Skyn and generic version.

Nice.

Well really, either sounds fantastic.
Regardless I have no doubt the device will be spot on as if it weren't, it wouldnt have the CEntrance name on it

@mgoodman I'll be upgrading from iPhone 5 to iPhone 6 or 6 Plus in a few months and I was wondering what the dimensions of the HiFi-Skyn for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus will be.  I did some rough calculations and it looks like the iPhone 6 Plus case will be about 8"x3.25"x0.8" almost as big as my iPad Mini

I think I am the minority here, but Mike can you post something on how will the Skyn works with the iPod Touch 5th gen?  Will it be the same case as the iPhone 5/5S version with a backing, or will it be a different case?

I am more interested in a Skyn at this point, just because I have always found external amps to be too clumsy for everyday use and the Skyn seemed like a more elegant solution. But l am looking forward to seeing what the iPhone 6 and 6+ Skyns will look like, as I'm somewhat worried they too will be too big for everyday use. If I end up getting a 6+ (I'm upgrading my phone soon), maybe the generic dac/amp would be worth consideration.

Out of curiosity, how can the Skyn play high-res/dsd without the camera connection cable? Other amps I've seen, even those that connect via lightning (iFi micro idsd, etc) still require the Apple cable or the phone can't output high-res.

Because CEntrance is an Apple certified partner, so they can build a direct to lightning adapter without using the CCK or the lightning to USB cable. (that's what I assume).

Yet CEntrance was an Apple partner back in M8 and mini M8 development years and never found that magic "fix" and fell back to recommending CCK cables for high res audio.

Something else has changed with Apple and Lightning and developers.
Now Skyn doesn't need CCK and apparently neither does he new Oppo HA-2.
