philodox,
How does the the Eastsound E3 compare to the E5?

jefemeister,
How do the original Rega Planets compare to the 2000?

mrarroyo,
I was looking on Pacific Vavle's website and noticed they have an already modded Lite DAC-AH for $220.

True, but the mods are a new output OP Amp on sockets. Not much for $70

You might also consider keeping your current CDP as transport and getting a DAC. For instance, you can get used Parasound DAC's for dirt cheap and they sound, as Sherman Potter said (about a certain liquor), "There's not enough 'O's' in 'smooooooth'." You can spend less than $300 nowadays for anything from a DAC-1500 and earlier, the 1100 or the 1000.

I once owned a Parasound CDP-2000 Ultra belt driven CD player and it was excellent with a warmer character. I really liked that CDP a lot. You can find them used on Audiogon frequently for ~$500. The nice thing about them is they are built like absolute tanks and can be used as top notch transports too.

i really love my Ah Njoe Tjoeb 4000. i have all the upgrades, and it sounds delicious either through my vintage klipsch heresy's or senn 650's through a a single power ppx3 amp. can't do enough tubes, especially when screwing around with cee dee. anyway, i know you can pick one off some sucker going for something "better" cheap. do it, and enjoy.

Since no one mentioned Jolida JD100A CD player, I will bring it up.
Never heard it, but I figure you can't get much warmer than having tubes in the output stage.

I briefly heard this CD player. It sounded out of this world. When I get some time, I am going to spring for the $599 and purchase it. It is a top loading 12AX7 DAC with a selectable upsampling. At 44.1 kHz, it sounded absolutiely stunning.

Still are in my house! No brightness, wonderful mids, just a tad lacking in bass but the SLAM sorts that out
