So I have a few dongle DAC/amps including the RU6. None of them seem to work with my iPhone 13. I'm using a lightning to USB-C cable but none are recognized by my iPhone 13. Anyone know why?

Is the cable for data and charging or is it an OTG cable

I have an iPhone 13 mini that works with RU6 but the cable is OTG version

I have no idea if it's OTG. It's works fine for charging. Why should that matter?

@MacMan31

If you are buying an Lightning to USB OTG Cable for DACs you should consider following options:
All of those cables deliver 5 volt to the DAC which is important for some Cayin products like RU7.

Other products also profit from more input voltage like iBasso DC Elite.

I just tested all tree cables above and they are working fine with the RU6 and my iPhone 13.

Well it's just another money grab for these companies. I'm any lightning to USB cable would work. it's just wires inside of a cover. The ability to use it like I'm wanting to is likely not "turned on" in software. I'm sure it could be turned on with a software update. But they won't cause they want people to buy more products.

this would probably work. https://www.amazon.ca/Oxygen-free-Adaptor-Amplifier-qudelix-Shanling/dp/B09KLXYQDH/

Some cables are charging only. You need an OTG cable for charging and two-way data transfer when using a dongle DAC

If you're a company making a more expensive, niche product than your competitors why would you make everyone pay more for a cable they may not need especially when the hardware that cable is required for limits how well your product can work in the first place? As an Android user I sure as hell wouldn't be happy if I had to pay an Apple tax on an item that I will never use with an Apple device. Your anger shouldn't be directed towards Cayin but Apple, as their need for absolute control over every hardware and software aspect of the products they sell is the reason why this is an issue in the first place. Yes there are issues with dongle DACs on certain Android phones as well but at least I have multiple companies to choose from if one of them makes a stupid hardware or software decision that limits compatibility with dongle DACs. If you insist on staying within Apple's ecosystem then you have to be willing to accept that you'll spend more on accessories than you would with a non-Apple device.

Perhaps I didn't explain my thoughts clearly in my last comment. That is on me. What I am trying to say is that wires are just wires. Any type of information should be able to pass through those wires. Whether it's data or power or whatever else. There should not be a limitation of the type of information that passes along those wires. (Obviously I'm not talking about privacy stuff. That's a whole other topic.) For example I have seen cables designed to pass information in only one direction. That is a limitation from the cable manufacturer. I'm not blaming Apple or any of the makers of the dongle DAC/amps. It's a design choice from the cable manufacturer. A cable is just wires wrapped in some kind of cover. That's it. Why put limitations on what it can do?
