Cayin N6iii: Nothing is Impossible with Gen2 User-replaceable Audio Motherboard

dongles will probably take over daps almost completely

phones will take over 90% of photography, even for professionals

even nowadays, there are phones like the vivo x100 ultra, that can compete with professional mirrorless camera around their price point, and even beat them. And we're talking a full fledged flagship device, which means you're getting insane value.

to me, it really feels like a matter of time. when Ai robots become something that is implemented in society, good chance most people will have no jobs, and the norm will be to just LIVE. atleast, that is my guess.

Wall-E came out a long time ago but that concept really isn't too far fetched.

edit: just to add, the first iphone came out in 2007.. not even 20 years ago, and the progress since has skyrocketed in ways unimaginable.

if before Ai and technology we advanced yearly in a formula of x+1, then after it we advance in x²
From what I've been observing the last couple of months it looks like the opposite. Dongles are dying and daps are growing, hence the influx of lower priced players.

I think in the next few years we might see smartphones offering better sound quality since most manufacturers have hit a brick wall in adding new features. I foresee Apple doing this and maybe adding back the headphone jack.

its tough for Apple to implement headphone jacks, there are more into wireless technology and own house ecosystem. Unless apple is developing more iems, I don't think we will see the headphone jack in near future.

What I forsee is the pushing of boundaries to improve on wireless to lossless. I am seeing small companies trying to implement multiple drivers to wireless, instead of single DD.

Is anyone having any issues connecting to an iPhone via Bluetooth? Or their PC? Or Apple TV? I can’t get mine to connect at all…it recognizes all of those devices, but won’t actually connect. It will show the pairing PIN code on my iPhone andN6iii and the PIN numbers match. I did a reset from the settings on all wireless connections and still had no luck?

What if you search from the other device? So instead of N6iii connecting to your phone you connect your phone to N6iii?

Thanks for the feedback. I tried both ways and still nothing. Interesting that Apple TV 4K won’t show the N6iii at all, but when searching from the N6iii it finds the Apple TV. Anyway, I’m 0/3 when attempting to connect anything, working from either direction. Can’t stream any music or audio from any device to the N6iii ☹️ I’ve had no issues with any other Bluetooth DACs.

Giving the N6iii a bit of love after listening to dx340 for past couple of days.

Very good pairing with Perpetua. Gives Perpetua a slightly more energetic and vshape profile compared to the sweeter and more analogue dx340.

N6iii definitely punches way above the asking price (and its size).

Sizewise I think in the realm of truly portable (pocketable) Daps with flagship sound N6iii and AK Sp3000m are the only 2 real contenders.

I love how we all hear so differently! The 340 did not sound warm or analogue to me AT ALL. Especially when compared to the natural tonality of the N6iii C201. Crazy! Lol

I haven't yet tested the DX340 but I agree with the natural tonality of the C201.

Well that’s the fun of the hobby :)

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think c201 is not natural sounding, it is and it’s also on the warmish side of sound but it’s definitely less sweet and more energetic than dx340.

Especially with dx340 set with filter h2.

To my ears and with my iems/hps, dx340 is more neutral, sweeter, calmer while N6iii is more energetic both in bass and treble.

Also, the soundstage of dx340 is bigger (that soundstage is enormous), while N6iii bass is stronger and treble has more sparkle. So it really comes to preferences/pairings I must say. Of course IMHO, to my ears etc etc.

Happy to have both ;)

Thanks for the comparison. I've been wondering whether it's worthwhile picking up a DX340 to add to my N6iii. Or wait for more motherboards from Cayin.

I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm trying to install Pandora on my N6iii and it keeps saying waiting for connection. It is the ONLY app giving me issues. Let me know if you had the same issue and have a solution. Thanks!
