If I had my choice of the two, I would definitely take the cassette adapter over the FM transmitter any day.
But I myself prefer either a line in (on the receiver) or, since I happen to own both an assortment of MiniDisc, Hi-MD and HDD Walkmen (NW-HD5) I prefer my Connects 2 (Connects 2,Car Audio integration specialists) ASONWHD001 Walkman adapter on my Sony MiniDisc car deck (MDX-C5970).
But I agree with you all on L.A. Radio, it's all Clear Channel/Infinity/Entercom-controlled corporate garbage, as a matter of fact, all "free" radio sucks, even HD radio, especially these garbage JACK-FM clones that are popping up in every city in North America, there are too many commercials, an array of censorship and corporate/major-label pre-determined playlists, etc. It's just not worth it.
Pretty soon I will be upgrading to SIRIUS satellite radio, at least we get to hear Howard Stern in all of his uncensored glory, 24/7, the way Howard should be heard!!!
I always choose to install an auxiliary input device like a USA Spec or P.I.E. so I never have to rely on FM transmitters or cassettee adapters. The aux input remain atop the 'food chain'.
