How many people here have removed the white stock filter?

Have you discovered other materials in your own that work well as a filter?

The white stock filter seems so dense that I was thinking about trying to replace it with some sort of cloth tape or medium density adhesive or cloth.

Just looking for ideas.

Thanks!

The Cascade has become a specialist for me. It was my first and only set of decent cans, But now I use them just for some genres/interpreters and always paired with the Neve amp (they balance each other well, I find).

Just now, I am listening to John Lee Hooker's "Serve You Right To Suffer ."And for this kind of music (primal, sparkly, bassy, sparsely assembled, and frontally recorded), I prefer it to its stablemates (Final D800pro and ZMF Verité Closed).

The silver cable from Lavri has added a roundness not present with the stock or the SXC8 cable. And yes, no filters whatsoever.

Can anyone tell me how well it pairs with iFi Zen DAC (V1/2)?

My $0.02 on Cascades upgrade with pure silver cable and XL pads: mine just came and solved all the issues I had.

Difficult to say what the core reason is, be it switch from SE to BAL, cable itself or pads, but I can now confirm that you can go this way instead of just selling these and might end up as happy with the sound as I am now.

What's the difference in sound between stock and XL pads? Also, the balanced cable, other than more power through a balanced source, It changes the sound at all? How much It costs the balanced cable?

Regarding pads, the main difference is soundstage and a tad recessed bass, overall comfort is also improved

Main difference related to cable is subtle details resolution, separation and layering (sound is more, uhh, holographic?), overall timbre is more balanced. I own a number of decent IEMs as well as good floormount speakers with proper amplification but still encounter more details and hidden accents in well-known tracks.

Cable was ~$100, I provided direct link a few pages earlier.

For example, in Niels Frahm - Spaces live record I can now easily locate several closely located pianos yet this separation does not negatively affect overall sound coherence as with some more analytical headphones + hear some very subtle sounds like breathing and audience noises.

Who prefers to remove the white stock pads and use their pads with no filters?
I tried that but didn't like the sound as somewhat artificial despite some improvements

These Headphones.

Since getting a couple of others in the meantime, cascade has taken a bit of a backseat.

But for whatever reason, this week I can't get enough Cascade!

Is it the new SupraUSB cable? a bit of EQ? Maybe it's the Black Keys:

Yeah, must be the black keys...
