Well, Sub/Sat can work great. I also have a pair of Decware DM945's ( www.decware.com ) that pair beautifully with the 80. They are an attractive classic bookshelf, but they have 8" woofers so they go to 42Hz! They are also 94db so no sweat for the Cary in Triode. They image like crazy. Nice big soundstage.

New week for the Cary....I added a trio of Stillpoints Ultra 5's and bases....The background get blacker..Very cool!
 

I also added a Light Harmonic Lightspeed cable to the mix with the Wyred 4 Sound DAC2 DSDse...

David, they are $699 each plus the bases at $207 for a set of 3. More than I paid for the amp!
 
Paul at Stillpoints is an old friend and he loaned me a bunch of gear to demo for some reviews I am doing. I also have a set of four of the Ultra SS units ($995) under my MacMini...

I am using my Cary SLI-80 with speakers a lot of the time.  Does anyone have any suggestions for tube rolling?...My goal is to add a little more bass authority.

I have had good luck with the USAF-596 Rectifier's for some additional bass.

Thank you armillary.Have another question; is the sub-output also functions as Pre Amp out with no problem, in other words any certain frequencies cut off, eg just below 40-50hz etc driven?

I think it is just a passive pre-amp-out.

Thank you ardilla..I have tried this preamp function with my CAD 500 MBs and it was quite intresting..  I should admit sole SLI-80 flavors differently...

Due to huge power of CAD 500MBs (500watts@8ohm/1k@4ohm) very sensetive with Preamps, mostly passive amps like "Placette" preferred. With SLI-80s preamp output soondstage was still nice and 500MBs famous dynamic authority still there ...A nice hybrid flavor I did get...However my speakers somehow match with tube amps and I no doublt will dirve them with SLI-80, instead CAD 500MBs... Also should add, driving quality, richness of harmonics and especially lower register more exiting with SLI-80 than 500MBs (for sure for my case).. (I guess matter of quality vs quantity  )

What speakers do you have - can you bi-amp? Run the 500MB for the bass only?
