I'm building my first headphone extension cable and I'm using Cardas 4x24. Should I connect the shield to ground on one end of the cable? If so, which end?

I did a search and found nothing definitive. What I read actually confused me.

if you wanted to the shield is connected to the amp side (male side), the idea is to draw emf backwards in the chain, this is mostly an interconnect thing
