Hi Warren, my setup was as the following:
Onkyo DP-X1 as transport > USB Connection > ifi micro iDSD as DAC > Line Output > Cavalli Liquid Spark > 1964 EARS V3
 

 
 
At gain 3x I heard a little hiss noise, so I set to gain 1x, and it was quiet at 1x.
 
Tonality is ok. From what I heard, improvement on the level of perceived detail would be great. As well as lower down the noise floor at 3x gain as well.
