It is a great location tbh. Not overly busy as London goes, but still plenty to do in the local area.

Speaking of not being overly busy, it was at The Russell that I experienced one of the most terrifying things that has ever happened to me London.

I was outside the hotel, not far from the Russell Square station, talking on my mobile as to not disturb attendees inside. I wasn't paying attention to my surroundings for a bit, and before I could process what was happening, was in danger of being engulfed by a mob. In size, it was about six or seven people abreast, and about two dozen people deep. They were very spirited, bordering on being inebriated I'd wager, and they paid no mind that I was about to be run down by them. I barely had enough time to dive for cover into the nearest alcove. After they passed, I noticed that the mob was comprised entirely of women. They were all dressed rather similarly, giving the mob an overall satiny pink and lilac tone. It was unlike anything I had ever seen, as nothing like that has happened to me here in The States.

I've since learned that this phenomena happens with a fair amount of regularity, and is known as a hen party.

Yes hen parties are quite a thing. My wife was on one a few months ago - it started at 9am, and I was asleep when she got home. The next day I couldn't believe how much alcohol she had consumed - and even more amazing was she wasn't seriously ill the next day. Hen parties involve a huge amount of alcohol over a long period - but they are invariably good natured, just women having fun. Tenby in Pembrokeshire is the hen party capitol of Wales. Am somewhat surprised it's not a US thing too.

And this sort of thing is why I am going to CanJam this year; I need to find a suitable upgrade for my IEMs to switch off while travelling in London!

If you ever get the chance to return to the UK, I highly recommend visiting the civilised parts...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday, July 30

12:00p - 1:00p Headphones 101

Simple in theory, headphones can be extraordinarily complicated electroacoustic devices. Join us for a clear overview of various driver designs (dynamic, planar magnetic, electrostatic, ribbons, etc.). Learn about basic acoustics, frequency response, impedance, sensitivity, and more. And most importantly, discover how to choose the headphone that best suits your needs.

Presenter: Makiah Shenay, HeadAmp Audio Electronics

2:00p - 3:00p The dCS Difference
From designing radar systems for naval jets, to developing the world’s first high-resolution digital converters, dCS 35 year history is filled with extraordinary moments. Join dCS Technical Director, Andy McHarg and Head of Customer Service, James Cook as they take a look at some of those landmark innovations, including their proprietary dCS Ring DAC™ and discover how dCS became a leading force in digital audio.

Presenters: Andy McHarg, Technical Director, dCS, James Cook, Head of Customer Service, dCS

3:00p - 4:00p Evolution Of Hearing Simulation, And An Examination Of Frequency Response Targets And How We Use Them
Jude Mansilla (of Head-Fi.org) will examine how the most popular hearing simulation standard (“711”) was developed over 40 years ago, and how important advancements in the years since will inevitably lead to the adoption of emergent standards. He will also discuss frequency response targets, how they are used in the industry and by reviewers, and some important considerations therein. Are we missing the target?

Presenter: Jude Mansilla, Founder of Head-Fi.org

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday, July 31

1:00p - 2:00p Solid-State Fidelity: An Introduction to the World’s First All-Silicon µSpeakers for Personal Audio Devices

This talk will introduce a new, all-silicon transduction mechanism that is set to disrupt century-old coil/magnet driver architectures. This new, solid-state architecture implements both actuation and diaphragm in silicon resulting in unmatched part-to-part frequency response and phase consistency. This innovative transduction mechanism has also produced the world's fastest and most precise µspeakers, eliminating spring and suspension recovery of coil speakers which improves audio quality and sound field reproduction.

Presenters: Mike Housholder, VP Product Marketing and Michael Ricci, Sr. Director Electroacoustic Engineering from xMEMS Labs, Inc.

2:00p - 3:00p Top Trends in Mass Premium Headphones
Through this presentation, we hope to highlight the top stats / key brands / features of the $200+ headphones segment and what we can expect in this space over the short to mid-term. We are also bringing out new consumer research that will shed some light on the demographic profile of consumers who seek to purchase premium headphones and what they would like to see from products at these price points.

Presenter: Arian Bassari, Lead Analyst, Futuresource Consulting

Here in the States my wife and her friends refer to them as "girls' getaways" and "book club meetings." She and her sisters and cousins do a weekend girls' getaway every summer, usually at a hotel with a first-rate spa.

Apologizes, if asked before but is there entry on the day without buying a ticket in advance.
Yes, just go to the CanJam Reception desk on arrival and buy your ticket there. Buying your ticket in advance, though, saves time on the day.

Wondering if Beyerdynamics T series will finally be present at a show 😅
Didn't see them on the list, they usually advertise their latest products at these shows.
Looking forward to going to a Canjam again after all these years.
Wish my Emotiva BasX was lighter 😅

I am intending to go but check the rail and underground situation because there is a threatened rail strike which will impact travel to and around London 🤬
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2022/07/20/train-rail-strike-dates-july-august-2022-rmt-aslef/
It was discussed earlier in the thread but the strikes next week (27th and 30th) are for specific National Rail services only. Your link requires a subscription so I was unable to read it, but BBC News has a complete breakdown (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-61634959.amp).

Please note that TfL services (Underground, Overground, etc.) and buses are not part of the strike so there are potentially other ways to travel to the show.
