the only jazz i seem to enjoy is the smooth type, and the very odd occasion i stumble across some i tend to really enjoy it. the jazz i'm not so keen on (to give you an idea) i would describe as busy, harsh, challenging and sometimes schizophrenic sounding.

can someone steer me in the right direction, because i feel i'm missing out on some really good music due to my lack of knowledge. any three piece groups?

(i have one smoother sounding double album called Midnight Jazz, and the earl klugh trio, both of which i have been enjoying)

cheers

The songs "So What" and "All Blues" from the Miles Davis album "Kind of Blue" are both classics and very smooth indeed.
For your tastes, "Time Out" by Dave Brubeck is also an album that you MUST buy. In general, any albums that were a part of the "Cool Jazz" era should keep you happy.

if your looking for newer "smooth jazz", here are a few I enjoy

Norman Brown - After the Storm (guitar)

Craig Chaquico - (guitar) its all good, Craig played with Jefferson starship and has a great career going in new age genre

Andreas Vollenweider - if you like electric harp there is no better

Dave Koz - great sax man, fairly new and talented

Waaaawaaaweeewaaa! cheers for that.

i should have mentioned that i have a preference for acoustic (with minimal mixing), as opposed to electronic or overly processed music.

feel free to clarify the genre of jazz to me also, if i'm on the wrong track, as i have minimal understanding.

very greatful for any more suggestions.

I will definitely check out some of these artists, which are mostly new to me.
