Figured I would share since hiss is often mentioned with some of campfires offerings.. on the Fiio BTR5 the Solaris 2020 doesn’t not hiss for me and if it does it’s so slight that I can’t detect it.

If you heard some hissing in a pair up with your specific sources using OG CFA iems, it will be the same with updated '20 line up.

To my ears it appears the 2020 is a touch more difficult to drive. The background appears fairly dark with the S1. I will play with the Cube later, but I don't expect much hiss with it. The 2020 is 15.5 Ohms @ 1kHz vs.10 Ohms @ 1kHz

I would really love to have the new 2020 Solaris and it's updated solid-body housing, but in the original gold color of the previous generation! Please offer color options

Maybe not the gold color, but I bet there will be a special edition down the line if you're OK with waiting.

Given Campfire Audio’s track record, I am sure you’re right. Maybe even sooner vs later (although my money is betting on a Solaris custom and perhaps an Atlas replacement before a new Solaris SE). Love their products, but perhaps they could be a bit more deliberate in terms of their “portfolio” management.

I remember complaining about the gold face plate when it first announce and I caved and bought it. I wish the 2020 version came out earlier, I would’ve bought it. Since the face plate is flat, you can just print sticker face plate if you don’t like the plain black look.

I didn't consider that but that does seem like a viable option for customization. It shouldn't be too hard if you have the time and patience to mess around with a sticker printer and a knife.

You read my mind. Earlier today I just ordered a peel and stick abalone veneer and a smoked eucalyptus veneer from Etsy to use explore creating my own Solaris 2020 se....I always was a sucker for that SE faceplate.

So… how do these Ara sound with the Pixies then...
Just spent the last 1.5 hours listening through Surfer Rosa and Doolittle, just for you. Oh how I suffer!

I didn't take any specific notes, as I'm doing my day job right now, but I noted a couple things. DAP is Cayin N6ii with T01 amp. I frequently listen for the character of the soaring female vocal on Where Is My Mind? as many IEMs don't nail this aspect of the song. The best sounding IEMs get a big linearly increasing soaring vocal. When they don't get it right, it's uneven, or stops soaring prematurely. The Ara nails the female vocal. I also listen for the layering of the male vocals--there's this little male vocal that says 'where is my mind' that should be pretty delicate. It is.

Drums and guitars are emphatic. Snare drums absolutely rifle and the cymbals are snappy. It might be a touch too fast and aggressive up top, if anything. So if you are someone who likes bite and snap in your treble, this will be for you. These have a surprising amount of slam and body on big drum hits. I like me some big drum hits so I'm just rocking along. Guitars are clear and rich with texture. Instruments have great body on these. Back to work with me!
