I spent today with the Bonneville after having spent the last few with Trifecta and Supermoon. I gotta say...I love everything about this IEM and stand by everything I've posted so far. No IEM will be for everyone but this has to be the closest to a "jack of all trades" IEM that remains faithful to CFA's bombastic bass first sensibilities. It's so enaging and addictively fun to listen to.

I don't think I've ever attempted a CFA only ranking before but here is how I'd rank all the ones I've owned based simply on my own personal enjoyment.

1) Trifecta
2) Bonneville
3) Dorado 2020
4) Solaris SE
5) Supermoon
6) Andromeda OG
7) Solaris OG
8) Atlas
9) Andromeda 2020
DROP
10) Holocene
11) Honeydew
12) Comet

I've got a set of Bonneville in black arriving tomorrow. Really looking forward to hearing what this IEM is all about.

I thought you owned the Atlas as well. I love mine though consider them a niche player. That monster bass is unlike anything else I have heard.

I forgot about the Atlas. Added it!

Well I am sad. I think the bonneville is going to have to go back. I really enjoy the sound it puts out, but the fit just isnt working for me. There are some tips I can use that get me a fit that feels comfortable at first, but I cant really make it past about 45 minutes to an hour before those pressure points start to become very noticeable and kind of painful. Not going to make any decisions right away, but I am finding it hard to imagine I will magically find some tips that will completely, solve the fit issues for me.

Are you considering switching them for a custom version?

No I dont think so, for a couple reasons. The first and main reason is that I have gone custom once before and found the whole process more frustrating than it was worth. And even then, I never achieved the level of comfort others talk about. My customs still cause discomfort and pain after some time. Its just not a process I want to repeat to have an IEM I wont really be able to sell down the line.

The other reason is that while I find them quite good, I am undecided if they are really doing anything unique or special enough to warrant the extra cost of the custom (which then puts them in a price bracket I dont particularly want to pay into), again, for an IEM I then will not be able to sell later should I decide. I also have a handful of other IEMs at various price points that are honestly more than good enough for me for most things.

In a vacuum, if I didnt already have other good options, and hadnt already dabbled in customs (that didnt work too well) then yea I would probably consider it.

Yeah, customs are a total pain in the butt. I’ll never do that again. Sorry they don’t fit man. Bonneville is a special set imo. So is Spartacus.

I really think these new campfire drivers are awesome.

Some tips to try with the Bonneville if you haven't yet: CP360, CP500, Spiral Dot++, TRI Clarion, FiiO HS18, AEX07. CP360 especially will give you a lot of options for insertion angle and depth, and the AEX07 will give a really solid and snug fit if movement is the problem.

I don't have some of those, but I have already gone through many different sets of eartips. Having a solid and snug fit isn't necessarily going to solve things for me. The problem is that the shape is too large in places for my ear so it puts pressure on a few specific spots, and being too snug and secure means it really pushes down on those specific spots without any room to move or be relieved.

I'm not giving up on it just yet, but I don't think it's looking good for me.

Nice how are you liking it?

It's a great sounding set for sure. I was surprised how balanced it is.... I'd been reading how the bass is just so bombastic. I don't find the bass to bleed really into the mids, thankfully. It's definitely an elevated low end, but that's what I like. What impresses me most is the level of detailing, without any hint of harshness. I'm also lucky in that the fit is as if it were made for my ears. Even with the iFi go pods, it locks in almost like a custom.

It’s almost that time of year for the CFA Multiverse. This year should have some cool collector items, especially with their new lineup.

Does anyone have a guess on what to expect? I am thinking maybe some limited time only colors for the chromatic models and maybe a Trifecta in a different shell material.

Hopefully they do it again… maybe a Solaris stellar horizon SE with abalone inlay? 🤤
