Cambridge DACMagic, anyone?

Price is going to go up worldwide? Its still 399$ for pre-order on WildWestElectronics here in the US, so I guess those who haven't placed an order yet still have a chance to order it for that price. Would be a great deal assuming that the price-hike statement is legit.

It is what the seller told me. He owns a store in the chain that imports em to Norway. This only applies to the very first original prices they were launched at. It may be that the price hike is _already factored in_ in some markets that got the dac later.

The price at WWE should be 370$ I think. They refunded me 30$ after I ordered it @ 399$.

399$? oh sheit. No wonder it was priced wrong over here. List price here now before the hike is about 220$

Actually, retail list price is $449 with a "street" price of $399 here in the states. I haven't found anyone selling them for less. Also, everyone seems to be waiting on their stock to arrive in about 10 days or so.

I'm really curious to see what kind of analog stage is in this. How many opamps and what variety. Same goes for caps.

220$, flying cheese puffs! thats ridiculous. Talk about a pricing screw up.

And I think WildWest seems to have done you a favour Lil' Knight, cos the price has been fixed at 399 the day after I ordered it for 369, so 399 it is.

Did you pay 220 in Euro(€) or USD($) ??

USD.. and 220 is still the price here if you can find it in one of their shops. Their webshop still lists it at that price, but with none available atm.

Only a couple of you speak norwegian, but here is the link to their webshop: http://www.hifiklubben.no/produkter/...erter_sort.htm

Price is 1598NOK and you can devide that by 7,2ish to find it in USD

Yes it is

Thing is that the chain that imports them printed and launched their 2009 catalog a few months ago and put that price (1598NOK) in it based on the price they got from CA.
When the catalog was launched the dacmagic was not even officially announced by CA yet and CA had to guesstimate what they would sell it for and got it horribly wrong. As they had already given the importer a price they had to sell the first batch at the price

Not really. U$300 is £200, give or take a £1 here or there.

Should I settle with this for a Stax system (SR-404 and SRM-1/MK2 but will upgrade to amplifier with balanced input later) or I should get a better one?

If you don't have intention of going balanced, there's still better choice SE DAC out there. The only reason I chose the DM is it's balanced output. If it hadn't been for that, I would have chosen other DAC.
