About a year ago I had my 840c sent in for repair (broken transport) and today while I was moving the 840c for cleaning purposes, I heard some rattling inside. So I popped the cover open and found this...

Thing is, I don't see any heatsinks in the 840c that are the same size as the one above. Plus, all the heatsinks in the 840c are secured with screws. I checked the bottom of the heatsink and there doesn't seem to be any thermal paste on it either...

Does anyone know where this heatsink goes or is it possible the technician that worked on my unit accidently dropped that in there?

That's what I was thinking too, but the back of the heatsink doesn't have any paste, sticky residue, or any markings. It looks brand new.

No thermal adhesive might be the exact problem caused during manufacture. Unless this was on some high-frequency chip or mosfet, I wouldn't worry about it.
