I made the mistake of descaling my machine today before making a cup. After realizing my mistake and getting flustered I skipped a step which left the light on after I was done. So I had to run through the process once more to get that darn light out.

I've made the same mistake in the past. Perhaps a hard reset could fix that problem. Got a hammer handy?

I was about 3 seconds from that method. I think that's the reason a lot of machines are built like tanks...safety from the caffeine deprived

The procedure for decalcifying my newest model of DeLonghi is mind boggling but thorough. It seems to be forgiving of one mistake in procedure that I've made. I was ready to hurl myself off a cliff but it figured things out on its own. I guess the programming has been improved since last.

For mine, I made the mistake of power cycling after the decalciying process but before flushing it through with clean water. That caused it to leave the light on until I did it the right way

I know you've got the big dog version. Do those usually require more or less maintenance than my puny(in comparison) EC680?

Part of the decalcify process requires turning the steam knob to the 0 position before refilling the water tank and flipping it back to 1 after replacing the water tank. It used to be that forgetting to flip the knob caused the decalcify process not to register as completed. I forgot to flip the knob, duh. The new machine requires refilling the water tank twice for a more complete process.

Mine requires two fills as well. On my second go-round the light didnt turn off (change from orange to white actually) until the second tank was emptied.

My stomach has been hurting the past few days and I don't know why. I'm beginning to worry. I hope the soda isn't making it worse...but I'm sure it is...

Which posts are you referring to aside from the recent Lamb Of God discussion? haha

Just that one lol. My sluggish and overly large uncaffeinated fingers decided that I meant to type "posts".

So @StanD and @pureangus62, do you guys use tap water or bottled water. I try to use distilled water when making coffee, but I don't make 10 cups a day so it's easier for me.

My tap water is pretty good as is (not hard water), however I have a multistage filter with a separate tap at my sink.

My tap water isnt bad either, but I fill my machine with water from a Brita pitcher. Buying all my drinking water would be waaaaay too expensive vs a pitcher and the occasional filter.

Coffee is > 97% water, definitely helps to use purified water.  I use a reverse osmosis unit I bought from Costco that's under my sink.  Overtime I think it works out to be not much more $ than a Brita unit, but don't have to worry about filling up pitchers, etc.

My tap isn't the best. Just wondering because you guys seem to decalcify your machines often.
