techy cable/dock builders, please shoot this one down with reasonings.

for me (in an ideal world) i would find useful the following;

ipod dock/block doubler

reasoning: there is obviously only one ipod dock on the bottom of the ipod unit, which is in use with a line out dock cable-->amp

i want to run simultaneously a portable battery pack which connects into the ipod dock via the standard issue dock connector.

is it possible, to have one male dock block to go into the female ipod dock, on the opposing side of the dock block, a dual female dock (2x ipod docks)

one port would provide the audio line out signal, the other would purely provide the power/charger side of things.

i am sure if it was possible it would have been done by now, but was just wondering what the main limiting factor would be

ipod5.5g|FemaleDockPort <-- MaleDock|femaleDockPort <-- line out dock cable (audio)
ipod5.5g|FemaleDockPort <-- MaleDock|femaleDockPort <-- battery pack dock connector (power)

red: as it is stock
blue: potential add-ons

in summary, similar to how a usb hub works, one male port, giving 2 female ports, a 2 for 1 deal.

its got a line out and a usb port. All you need to do is have a usb plug on the end of the cable from your battery pack and your done.

wow - i havent seen one of those before, the usb portion of it would work. but the audio side of things would require (in my selfishly specific setup) a dock port, unfortunately as it is inextricably tied to being that way because of the caps involved. in the dock/cable setup.

well i will be getting one of those anyway, for my other ipod

thanks for the linkage!

If you're using the two female dock ports for different purposes, there shouldn't be a problem. You can have someone make it. The only tricky part will be how to case it, and even that won't be too hard. Just a Y-split in the cable or something.

Basically, you'd have a male dock connector with all the pins you need there (line out pins and power/charging pins). Then there'd be wires soldered to the pins. The three line out wires would go to a female dock port (which you can buy online), and connect to relevant things there, while the wires soldered to the charging pins on the male connector would go to a separate female dock port and connect to the relevant things. I don't remember the site, but there's a place that sells female dock ports. It'd just be a Y-shaped cable, except nothing would be split.
