The reason lies between the lines.

His own hearing is so excellent and far superior to every one else's, as is his ability to separate illusion from reality. Not to forget his profound knowledge of physics, philosophy and new age...

Apart from that and against all rationality (I can't really take the common physical scenarios in this regard seriously) I believed to detect a small difference in favor of the (black-)marked CD edges (sharper contour, less glare). If they are real, they are tiny, though, and not worth the continuous modification IMO, so I renounce it now.

Perhaps it's because burning does not take place instantly, unlike changing cables, installing rf traps, green paint...etc.

Headphones, like loudspeakers, normally benefit from a burn-in period.

We would normally run a pair of headphones in for 24 hours before sending
them for review, for example.

Does this answer you?

So, Mike, I think it's time for an apology towards all the people who have «been mislead by their subjectivity» in expectation of sonic changes, while master Mike with his superior hearing and his critical distance to the subject...

What do you think?

Apologies are normally expressed for offenses against manners or morals. I was wrong on a matter of fact, but I did not act in any way that was improper.

Now I suggest you to ask Stax if they really build the best headphones of the world...

While you're at it you may as well get your ears examed, something must be wrong if you can't hear the burn-in.

all in favor say "aye"

Also, now... does this burn in happen regardless or are the first 24 hours "critical" somehow? I want to get the most possible sound i can out of my hd280s (coming in the mail today)!

Regardless. But pushing it by applying a dedicated break-in over night will offer you better sound earlier.

Nevertheless, you can apply special break-in signals again, after using the headphone regularly, and maybe it will break in a bit further. It doesn't matter how, when and how often you break it in. (IMO)

Ahh, but what are those benefits? What does the 'running in' accomplish?

See, we are back where we started.

Hi. I've received a reply from Grado, so far. An AOL address, which is odd. And a lovely yellow background. One would think a company would be more professional. Ah well.

Yes, there is an actual burn-in time for our headphones and that
is about 2 to 3 weeks of normal listening time. The sound
absolutely improves.
Thanks so much.

Grado Labs

You heard from Sennheiser, Mike, but we shall see about Koss and AT...

BTW, SageOHaze, what package was it that you had the delivery stuff for up here?
