Budget phones for basshead?
Nov 3, 2007 at 2:35 AM Post #18 of 40
Yes sadly Hi-Fi will never be portable but we could at least try.

The Equation Eartools are of the circum-aural type and a bit over my budget, so I can't consider those. Any opinions on the AKG K81 Dj?

The 81DJs are my favorite rap/pop/rnb phones. They are worth the price.

RP-21s having some pretty kickin' bass. I believe Skylab ranked it best in the "bass" category of his 5-way review of sub-$150 cans. That put it above even the mighty HD25!

if you can find some lightly used ones you should go with the HD580. great cans, their about 170 new. and they can be modded and made even better

Haha, thats getting too close to semi-pro level phones. Just want some headphones with great bass that I wouldn't have to baby around with, since it is for on the go.

KSC75, PX100, HD485, RP-15, SR-80, RP-21, RP-22x, DR150, DT770, none of these will disappoint you. All that's left to decide is how much you want to spend, how much you like how the headphones look, and how portable they are for you.

for extreme budget and portability with loads of bass you could get some $20 JVC marshmallows

Okay, today I upgraded from 5mw/ch to 20mw/ch. Should be able to drive the headphones better. I think I'm pretty much set on the AKG K81 DJ, anything to know before I buy them? Ultimately will these be an upgrade from my current MDR-V300.

just make sure to audition it first (if sample are available), to know is it worthy enough to replace your old pair...lot ppl here complaining about K81dj comfy (well somehow i dont have the problem with it)...and dont forget to test it with your own source...

Your english is perfectly fine, I can understand it. I wish I could audition them but I don't anywhere that carries them, I was planning to buy them from Amazon. Well I guess it is trial and error.

Ath Es-7 is NOT for bassheads, its got a more balanced sound than k81dj
