NAD C542. The best bang-for-the-buck i've heard. If it's too expensive, you really should try Cambridge Audio. Though, the cheapest model seems too loud for me(the mechanism).

TEAC still makes relatively inexpensive single-disc CD players. Its Reference PD-H300 Mk III CD player was just given a "Great Buy" recommendation by goodsound.com, where it compared favorably to NAD's C542. It can be had for $179.00 shipped from J&R.

I think the CD5001 has very decent analog output, and would look around for one of those. With all the outputs of my Apogee mini-DAC used up on dynamic amps, I have my HEV70/HE60 hooked up to the analog out and the synergy there is not bad. (GES/O2 is in a separate rig)

X2 on the NAD C542. Plus the price just dropped to $299. A total value, and I have not heard of any build problems with it, and I did a lot of research before I bought mine.
