For all of you old timers, this is an excellent sampler box set with some interesting alternative takes of album tracks as well as some previously unreleased material. It has been around for a long time, so the only "news" here is that Amazon has it on sale (4 CD box set, nicely packaged) for 50% off. See here: Amazon.com: Tracks (4CD): Bruce Springsteen: Music
What I've always liked about this box set is that although it's non-essential, it does add a new flavor to his music for long-time fans, and would serve equally well as an "intro" for someone who has perhaps been a bit curious and wants to get an overall sample without buying a bunch of studio albums. Relative to his studio albums, I find this box set a bit more relaxed and soulful; not so tightly orchestrated, but yet not sloppy at all. It has a "roots" type of feel. It covers a fairly broad time period, starting at the beginning and going through at least half of his career.
