I'll be looking at venues this coming week. Monday is a crazy day for me so the hunt will start on Tuesday.

Where was the venue last time(s)?

Both have been at Iceworks at Paddington BUT the venue was $600+ last time which is a lot of money for what it is. They have redone the rooms too which make it more of a cocktail style venue. Might look into the convention centre instead.

And just enquired about costs for a meeting room at the Convention Centre. Last time Brook looked into it, they were wanting around 400ish.

add the extra cost of parking in the city and you have the extra 200 easy. better food available in the building at iceworks too. stuff nearby at the convention center, good stuff, but $$$

The hunt is on. I've gotten a couple of quotes, one at a hilarious $1200. I'll keep you updated. Preference is for Iceworks pending their quote.
