Well, it wasn't until I went through a serious loss that I realized what a great songwriter McCartney was for breakups. Some of the songs that I heard differently for the first time after growing up with them were:

Yesterday
For No One
You Won't See Me

In terms of albums, I think Dylan has some great ones:

Blood On The Tracks
Time Out Of Mind

Also, Steve Earle has some good one's on:

El Corazón
Transcenental Blues

And then there is Wilco's Sky Blue Sky - wow that's a powerful one.

And another old song that was covered by Johnny Cash on his last album - If You Could Read My Mind - something about hearing Cash's voice sing those words knocked me out.

Vertical Horizon - Inside
Aerosmith - Amazing
Bush - Letting the cables sleep
Guster - Demons
Our Lady Peace - Clumsy

michael buble - home
joseph arthur - in the sun
colin hay - overkill (acoustic)
rufus wainwright - hallelujah

augustana - boston
blue october - hate me

That takes it all in. One of my favorite playlists for emotionally low periods. The new EP version of a mix tape if you well.
