I know that pretty much all head-fiers have perfect romantic relationships, but for the few of you who've ever been through a break up, what music did you listen to when you broke up with her? My favorite is Bob Dylan's 'Blonde on Blonde', the second CD is amazingly true and moving.

Back when I was in college the standard used to be Layla by Derek and the Dominoes.

There was a mix CD that I made once that had some lovely tracks that I liked listening to for those times... included things like:

Derek & the Dominoes - Layla
Bluetones - Marblehead Johnson
Dire Straits - Romeo & Juliet
Hurricane #1 - Step Into My World
Green Day - Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)
Phil Collins - Take A Look At Me Now
Bon Jovi - This Aint A Love Song
Radiohead - Creep

Can't remember all the others. However if there was one album that just felt the right kind of mood to help me through or comfort me (strange as it might sound) it was always Radiohead's The Bends.

EDIT:

Special mention should go to The Stone Roses with the track I Am The Resurrection. The lyrics to the whole song are really great (IMO) but I love it for being able to include the line "your a no-one, no where, washed up baby who'd look better dead" and then go onto the chorus including the line "I couldn't ever bring myself to hate you as I'd like" Wonderful sentiments for when a guys been dumped (again.. IMO)

I haven't broken up with anybody since 1985 or so. At the time "Siamese Twins" by The Cure was quite effective.

Yes, you are painfully correct.

And, as the OP pointed out, Blonde on Blonde is also great. When I was going thru a divorce, I got heavily into Blood on the Tracks. With songs like, "If YOu See Her Say Hello" and Idiot Wind, how can you can go wrong?

IMO, there are two basic types of breakup music: the sad/mopey (like Beck) and the angry/liberating, maybe something by the Stones....

Danzig - Don't Mind The Pain
Danzig - Tired Of Being Alive
Danzig - Black Angel Light Angel

Death - Forgotten Past (listen to the lyrics carefully)

Deftones - Knife Party

Foo Fighters - DOA

Smashing Pumpkins - (the entire Adore CD)
(the entire Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness CD)

Avril Lavigne - Avril Lavigne Bsides (I'm not sure if you can find this, if you can, listen to it, it's worth it)

Hope you come out realizing what you can do better next time.
