  That does indeed seem to be the case. I had the chance to test with an AK240 (on the theory that the balanced output on my AK120ii was wonky), but the problem persisted. So the cable goes back to Ted so he can figure it out.

BTW, is your cable directly to 3.5mm 4 pin? or is it to the weird mini balanced RSA plug, then converted to the 4 pin 3.5?
 
It might even be a problem with your adapter if it is the latter.

Something relatively neutral or flat.  For me, the UERM is a good fit in terms of customs - while the Noble 4 does it for me in terms of universals.

It might even be a problem with your adapter if it is the latter.

It terminates in the 2.5 plug needed for the AK.
