Why not sell your J3 and keep the AK100II? I am very happy that I returned my iBasso HDP-R10 and got an AK100II instead. I like small this player is. It's smaller, but thicker than my iPhone 5S.

I figured that I better hang onto my money if the difference in sound quality isn't great. If I'm going to upgrade, it has to knock my socks off. I also tried the DX90 and X3. Neither impressed me much sound-wise, but the X3 is a very good deal for the money imo. I wish I had brought my Miracles - it was an impromptu visit, so all I had were my VSonics. Had I brought them, I may well be saying something completely different, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

As a backup player? Once it arrives my shore and if i don't find the 240 significantly better than the 100II i might just sell it off and replace it with the 100II

Don't think the 100ii can be competing with 240 though.  Let us know the answer once you have one.

Nope. Yesterday, I've been occupied since the afternoon. I'll compare the AK100II to my home setup.

For me the RWAK240 has a little more depth and seem ever so tighter showing some of  the detail - but as far as i am concerned that is the red wine mod.
 

 

The out the box AK240 - i don't know about the differences as according to the specs below they are very similar. - Others have different views/impressions as shown earlier in the threads
I used Ref 1 for my A/B.
