Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion

With the Pi8 now on the way, does anyone know if you will be able to connect the Px8 to the Pi8 case? Might this be a way to get around AAC on an iphone and have a high res BT connection?
Surely the limiting connection would be between the phone and the Pi8 in this case though?

I did notice that the Pi8 feature
"5-band customisable EQ + TrueSound™ mode"
They should add that for the PX headphones.

So if I had a Lighting to USB-C cable connecting my iPhone 14 to a Pi8 case, then connected my Px8 via BT to the Pi8 case, would I not get something a bit better than the standard AAC connection through the iPhone BT?

Yup it’d likely sound a lot better.

The PX8 implements AAC very well, as someone who’s tried them on an Aptx adaptive phone and AAC a lot, you’re not getting much, splitting hairs.

The buds for some reason have poor AAC implementation, or poorer, with a lower max volume on AAC and quality seems hindered. This isn’t the codec it’s the implementation. I dont know if Pi8 are the same but reviews seem to indicate it.

I’ve long since switched from iPhone to a Galaxy Fold 4 and a V60. The fold is better than any iphone ive owned by a big margin, and the v60 has a headphone jack. Honestly after years on iPhone dealing with the lightning/codec pains, id reccomend everyone into wireless audio do the same lol. You just have so much more freedom.

Always been an Android person but that is my understanding of how the previous models worked. No reason to think that would not be the case here. From a convenience perspective though, it seems that AAC is implemented well on the Px8 so do you really want another dongle? I can see it being useful on a plane though.

Funny, my V60 just died (battery expanded and case broke apart two days ago). I had been using a Fold 5 and had started using my V60 with wired IEMs and Px8/Px7 S2 more these days due to comfort over my TWS even when commuting or out and about (although PI8s have me interested now). Just took delivery of a Xperia 1 V to replace the V60 so the Fold 5 + Xperia 1 V will be my mobile setup for the next few years.

No, you need an aptX adaptive adapter like the Creative or Sennheiser for your iPhone to get the best high definition sound from for example Tidal .
But it’s difficult to find a lighting to usb adapter that works without additional power supply.
This is my solution but you this working adapter! Or a iPhone 15 Pro with USB-C.

I'll let you know by this time next week. I ordered the Pi8 this morning direct from B&W and paid the 14$ for overnight shipping. Given its Thursday if they ship today it'll be here Tomorrow or Monday if tomorrow. Idk I expect it by next week. I'll give you some sort of report then.

I made an inquiry to B&W after ordering a Pi8 to see if the Px8 will get the improved EQ adjustment the the Pi8 is getting.

“Thank you for contacting Bowers & Wilkins Customer Care.

There is no new app for the Pi8 headphones, the Bowers & Wilkins Music app should work with the Pi8 as well. In addition, the app should provide 5 band EQ adjustment for the Pi8 earbuds.”

I truly hope my Px8 gets the EQ that the Pi8 gets via the B&W app. On my iOS devices! I’m not sure if
it can at this time regarding B&W’s respond to my email?

Again, since I have the Px8 and the Pi8 ordered for overnight shipping, and appears I am likely to be the first person on here to get them unless someone in the UK has them overnighted lol...I'll try and see if the Px8 gets the 5 band as well and play around with it.

It would be nice to get more bands of EQ for the PX8 to fix the treble up, or at least have a try. Everything else I'm happy with (although I dial the low end back a bit). I think bass and mids on PX8 sound fab, but treble leaves a bit to be desired and can sound off sometimes.

If it does I’ll be dancing to a better EQ!!! Well at the very least tapping my toes to the music!

I've never quite figured out if thats just what B&W thinks the house sound is and should be, or If this is just tuning that's off. Sometimes I think B&W believes thats what music should sound like and thats that.

Smaller closed backs really struggle with treble I find. I also have the Azurys which are a superb wired closed back, but they have some slight treble resolution and glare issues. The PX8 is a worse offender with a bit of compression in the treble and some glare, but still, it gives you an idea that even a very competent wired headphone is having these issues. Closed backs are hard to do.

But it would be interesting to see if you could EQ the slight compression out. Could probably just try on a decent music play app, I just never have as these are really Spotify headphones for me. I'd be willing to bet with better EQ you could really improve these, like most closed backs. I am enjoying them with the bass 1 down on the EQ though, that works nicely.

I picked up the Hadenys a couple weeks ago and so far have been...meh? Theyre great sounding but not infinitely better than anything else I've owned. So Maybe the Azurys is more my speed.

Does anyone know if the Pi8 improves the control scheme over the Pi7/S2, specially toggling transparency mode? It was maddening to only be able to do this through the app rather than the bud touch controls.

@mainguy posted this in the TWS thread yesterday. Quite a bit of discussion there related to the PI8 already. I know a number of people there have ordered it.

Post in thread 'Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?' https://www.head-fi.org/threads/goi...soon-or-are-we-there-yet.861024/post-18287136

Edit: also agree that drove me crazy with the original PI7s. Been waiting for a new version with EQ as well so I am pretty excited about these. Just need to wait as I don't want them delivered while I am out of town next week.
