Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion

I mean the APP2 have extremely good ANC for sure, and decent sound, but I find it very hard to believe that you can compare 250 IEM's to 800$ over the ears and say they even are in the same league. Apple does wonders with software and they are great for what they are, but having both, it just isn't close.

I will not spending time explaining why your comments are wrong and, in several ways, a cliche of misinformation, and some or many people here will agreeing with you. I already know explaining this is waste of time. But, if this is making you feel better, the APP 2 costing 300 euros in Europe vs 700 euros for px8.

So, the last 2,5 days I'm comparing the px8 and my AirPods Pro 2 (APP 2). Maybe the people here remember that in the Bathys thread and in this thread, in the photos I posting, I always including the APP 2 because I think is really a excellent earphone in many ways, including very much the sound. Because all this weeks I'm comparing only the Bathys, 5909, px8 and p7w, I never in fact comparing the sound quality of APP 2 and px8 directly at the same time.

My conclusion last night is that I prefer the sound of the APP 2 than the px8, the APP 2 is having a more correct (FR) sound that is great for me, and this is even with my EQ settings in the px8. Without EQ, the difference is even more evident in favour of APP 2.

Today, I'm using the 5909 again that I putting for sale here in Head-fi some weeks ago and I deciding comparing again the 5909 with the px8. Wow, I have a surprise seeing how much I preferring the 5909 even when using EQ in my px8. Before I already know I preferring the 5909 sound (and the Bathys too), but I forgetting that the difference with the 5909 is more big than I'm thinking before.

So, even after having really great 30-32 volume steps (so important for me) in px8 and a better carry case and maybe even little better ANC, the 5909 is still sufficiently good in the volume area (never so terrible like the Bathys in this aspect) and I have the excellent APP 2 for top level ANC and great sound too for travelling.

So, I will returning my px8.
I just tried the PX8 in store today and found them pretty enjoyable…nearly bought the bullet. But on my way home was listening to my APP2 and was thinking to myself how great they sound for what they are. Such a clean, spacious and well balanced sound. Tempted to just stick with these and wait to see how the next iteration of the APM turns out…

Sound is very subjective. I have seen people claim APP2 is on par with HD800s for classical music.

Oh I was thinking in the realm of the Bathys and 5909 as well. I just put the 5909 and the Bathys and the Px8 in a category above pretty much everything else on the market but that's just me. Again, APP2 is great, I love them for a quick on the go sound, but by sheer driver size alone unless they hit your ears perfect and you can get that magical seal, it's kinda hard to compare.

If you're sitting quiet at home, AND without prejudice about price and/or brand and comparing both, maybe you will finding a big surprise how excellent the APP 2 is and maybe preferring this more than the px8 and other expensive full size headphones, BT or not.

Funny you say this, I actually find the opposite is the best use case for the APP2, It's got far and away the best ANC I've ever heard. Just utter and complete silence. Which, I find amazing. It makes listening to details easier in a noisy environment. I love them for that.

Well it’s one opinion. Because I have different one. I have both and love both. App2 and px8. And px8 to my ears not only sound better but app2 in congested songs like industrial, nine inch nails and alike, is a mess comparing with px8 at least to my ears.

How is the volume level of the 5909 on an iPhone? I thought I read somewhere that the maximum volume is too quiet (for quietly recorder tracks).

I love my APP1 and often just use them as ear plugs when I am reading or working. The sound is great, but they sound tinny compared to my old Bowers P7. I cannot imagine the APP2 would come close to over-ear headphones such as the PX8 or Bathys, or even Momentum etc. But gosh, imagine if that is true... well, then I'd be running to the Apple Store. Stupid thing is, you cannot 'try' them.... it's buy or nothing. Was planning on keeping these APP1's a little longer and getting some decent over-ear headphones....

They are definitely better than the APP1 in terms of a fuller sound, but again, unless you got those magical ears that you can get a perfect seal with, it's not going to be the same oomph as the over the ears.

I really think this is exaggeration and bias comment. Give me one song, I will trying and give you honest opinion comparing both px8 and APP 2.

Volume preferences are different for everybody. I don't having a problem with 5909 volume at all and I have old quiet recordings (with this recordings maybe I go to 90% max for my taste sometimes). BUT is true that px8 and, even more, Bathys having more volume.

Completely agree. But the guy already told you that you are so incorrect that he doesnt even have the energy to explain how wrong you are. There is no arguing with that. Case closed. 🤣

I will but I don’t see where it’s biased. I really love both. I exaggerated with the mess term? Maybe but I will get an example for you to tell me your thoughts… no bias.

I understand that you don’t find the response of px8 linear correct. It’s not. With its pros and cons.

I’m with my kids now but when I have a moment I will get some examples. I appreciate your position! 👍
