I dunno, most dt770s i saw were wired with 3 wires...

A lot of headphone manufacturers just put the L-channel/R-channel wires into one of those wraps (Grado, for instance). Beyer could have done the three-wires on the older models, and this arrangement on the newer ones (or vice-versa).

  About the bass, I think it's either a case of driver tweeking that has been going on at Beyerdynamic throughout the years that we haven't been notified about or hype that has snowballed from constant parroting of subjective reviews.

I actually did some googling around and turns out the output impendance of it is 260 Ohms balanced, 130 Ohms unbalanced.

So you're loosing a lot of power, if you have the 80-ohm DT 770.
