Master Sniper is fine if you want a pulp thriller escapism. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I just finished a Robert Ludlam book, and it's the Stephen Hunter writes the same kind of stuff. If you want something that has a touch of realism, it's not the right book.
Of course, I recommended Catch-22 which is about as fantastical as any book I've read.
They've already been recommended, but Stephenson's Cryptonomicon and Heller's Catch-22 are wonderful books, worthy of several readings.
For great WW II non-fiction, try Roald Dahl's Going Solo. Dahl wrote superb adult books and stories, as well, and actually was a fighter pilot in WW II. Gripping and difficult to put down.
