since there was never talk of a closed headphones with high quality sound compared to say the 600s...

Never?
Sony MDR-R10, Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro, AudioTechnica ATH-W100, W11R, W2002 and 100Ti. There was at least some talk about them...

Hi kelly,

Do you think the Corda Blue w/opa627's, 'lack texture/ambient detail'?

The Corda Blue uses OPA637 biased into Class A with a FET cascode current source. I don't think it sounds remotely like the Max, which is dual OPA627 in Class AB.

I tend to blame the OPA627 itself for part of the missing texture but think its Class AB operation may be part of it. You tell me.

I wonder if you couldn't sub the opa627 with the ad8610, just for research purposes....of course.

Now, if I only had a Max...

From what has been said, the AD8610 can't handle the voltage. You'd have to build out the rest of the module, not just an opamp swap. I'm not sure how the AD8610/20 does in AB anyway, though.

There is an "ask Wes" feature here that we can all use to harass him about the Blockhead review (Kelly!).

edit: I just read the review and see that the above is pretty obvious there. Has anyone "asked Wes" yet?

I don't know in what manner Wes archives his reviews, but just last year, he wrote up a couple of really well-written reviews of the Stax SRS-4040 system, and the Sennheiser HD 600 and AKG K501 headphone.

Yes, I neglected to think of the ATs as "closed" since I was thinking more of isolation... But true, it might be worth trying out.
