I see an option on the Manufaktur site for impedance of 32. From what I've read, most people prefer DT770/80, DT880/600, and DT990/600 (I think). Has anyone tried the lower impedance versions?

I had the dt990 -2005 32 ohm model. Jan Meier told me that they sounded pretty much identical with the 250 ohm model which is the reason for me getting them.

I would describe the 600 ohms and 250 ohms version of DT880 as "pretty much identical" too, but with the former being a little smoother sounding. I guess the 32 ohms version are somewhat that way too?

So is it possible that 600ohm version is better sounding phone than 250ohm version? Is difference really big? Because i am thinking of buying/replacing my DT880 (250ohm) with 600ohm version. But i am not really sure if there is enough difference that is worth it to go and buy 600ohm version because they are not so cheap.

Off:

Is anyone here tried and removed that "net" behind the driver of DT880? Because i would like to try but there is no way to put it back as it was. So i am not sure about this. And yes i am looking for more bass from them.

Try and ask skylab, I think he was the one that mentioned the difference between the 600 ohm model being smoother than the 250. He has the 990 though but then again I hear that the drivers of the 990 and the 880 are the same so if thats true then the higher impedance models should change the same way for both the 880 and 990 I would think

You will find, IMO, that amongst the three primary Beyers dt770 is the exception to the 600ohm preference. I asked Headphile to build me a pair of Darths using the dt770/32ohm drivers (which I provided). When used with a tube/tubey amp - they easily superceeded the std Darths.
As it stands today, I have 2x X-Deeps, 1x 32ohm std Darths, and have arranged for Larry to transform a 2nd pair of stds to 32ohm. OTOH - I bought a pair of 600ohm dt990 when they first became available - still have them and they aren't leaving my desk.
What basically occurs is with the 32ohm drivers - the upper mids and treble brightens, ergo transforming the headphone to a more crisp, lifelike sound. But, some recordings make them too bright, which is why I suggest using a tube or tubey amp.. It all depends on your musical background and your personal listening habits. All of the 32ohm choices will experience the same phenomena. I don't think dt880 and dt990 profit from this option.......since for them the 600ohm option is superior to the std 250ohm....IMO

.........and my RS-1 are worn with flats and either a tube amp, or with Xin Reference to sound right to me.

I am asking again. Has anyone tried to remove that "net" behind driver of DT880? Or is better to leave it as it is?

If you are not satisfied with Dt 880 bass(wish more), it's a good idea to remove the net, it also tames a high a very little bit. I prefer DT 880 without the net.

Bushguy FTW! Have you been able to compare a DT770/32 to a DT770/80, both stock?

ElephantTLK, do you have the latest DT880? It's supposedly bassier than previous generations; I've owned it and felt it was bassy enough. Of course, you can look into the DT770 and DT990 if you want bass.

IMO opinion, stock dt770/80 are good for gaming - but not for music (be aware music to me is primarily jazz, jazz vocals, and classical). I have not come across "stock" dt770/32 for a listen. What I've cited is the only such pair of Darths in existance with the 32ohm drivers - specified by me on suppositions based on the known nature of the drivers discussed. Fortunately, for me, it worked out exceptionally well. As I started this post - dt770/80 stock - never for music, but should be very heartily rec. for gaming (in fact, look at the Beyer Manufaktur page for gaming headphones - nothing better for that use). Regarding ordering dt770/32 I cannot help much, due to the size/shape differences of the enclosure. Probably o.k. with a tube/tubey amp.. You could do worse. It all depends upon what you really need, and can spend.

The current edition of dt880 should be termed as bass-adequate - quite satisfactory.........and comments re bright/shrill etc cannot be used with reference to the 600ohm version.
