Beyerdynamic Xelento!

While on the topic, sort of, I've just finished with my 2nd cable in 26 months. The cable has a weak point at the bottom of the 3.5mm connector.

My next one I plan to reinforce with some rubber tape. I'm just wondering if anyone has tried any of the cheaper cables on ebay around £12? I don't fancy paying £100 for another cable as a new cable every year is becoming quite expensive. I tried the Ebay ones for around £40 last time thinking it may be genuine but they are fake so didn't even test SQ, I'm now open to a non genuine cable due to the frequency of failure.

Heat shrink would be a better option.

There are a multitude of cables available on aliexpress with mmcx. Some of the better budget options are the Tri Through and Faael hibiscus. Both are very low impedance. Or take a look at the cable threads for more ideas.

The £12 ebay imitation cable seemed to be fine - soft/supple cable and SQ not noticeably affected, then unfortunately the connection cuts out on the right ear piece regularly.

I can see this is a common issue, I recall even having this happen a few times with the OEM cable early on but it never happened again, of course not until the wire was worn out near the 3.5mm connector after a year or so.

Has anyone gotten their hands on a pair of the new Beyerdynamic DT IEM series? I'm curious how the DT 70 IE (the mixing/critical listening one) compares to the Xelento 2. I'd presume it's got less bass overall, but there don't seem to be many impressions/comparisons out there yet.

I am also very interested in a comparison, but have not found any. I think a Xelento with just a little bit less bass would be great.
Are there any frequency measurements online?

Maybe I'lll order a pair next week, then I could make a comparison.
I was kinda tempted to do the same, heh. Very curious to hear what you think if you do. I continue to really like the Xelento 2 (especially with moderate personalization applied, which for me brings the midrange/highs forward a bit) but am intrigued by the idea of an alternative with a moderately flatter frequency response and greatly improved isolation.

Can anyone compare any of the bd iems to current budget sets like the xsl x-1, the better kzs such as the prx, zvx pro, trio or zs12 pro x?

In 2017 the xelento was my favourite set I tried out of a bunch of totl stuff on offer at zeplin and co, but I never got around to owning them and am super curious if they're still significantly superior given how good the budget space is these days.

Same would go for the ie 900.

I mean I tryed all of 64 audios stuff 2k 3k+ iems 2 years ago would take it over any of them easily too be frank. The coherency Big stage musicality seamless where it down fit is priceless, bass engagement. Only thing lacking a bit imo from today's totl is the precise imaging or more concrete placement of different sounds throughout the stage.
I tried a few of those sets people talk about ea1000(creams it) even today's shanling mg800 it's better then imo my just a more mature balanced sound. A 2nd hand Xelento 1 in 2025 is a cheat code vs sub 1k stuff these days,,,

Beyer was clearly way ahead of their time w this set. Still personally hoping there's an Xelento 3 (:

Thank you for your thoughts on Xel1. Have you had a chance to listen to Xel2 remote and/or wireless in comparison?

I have the 1st version and no other iem has won against the Xelento fully. There were some things that today's sets do bit better like slightly better tonal balance, or bit wider stage but the Xelento still possess great imaging, detail retrieval, holographic staging, very smooth sound and engaging bass.
I compared them to Monarch 2, u12t, Mest 1 and 2, Ziigaat Odyssey, Variations, ie600 and ie900 and many more. I also did comparisons vs Xelento 2 and most of these expensive sets were slightly better in some things but less engaging in other areas.
The most significant step up in tonal balance was between the Xelento and Monarch 2, but Monarch 2 is undefeated in general, so this was the highest bar to jump over.
So to sum it up - the Xelento 1 is still a very good set, maybe not longer worth it's original price but very capable within 300-600 dol price bracket.

Received the DT70IE today and made some measurements. Unfortunately I had some problems measuring a clean graph (at 150Hz etc.), but as it is just a comparison it shouldn't matter. I used both IEMs with Spinfits as it is easier to measure with them.
I am ill and my ears are blocked, so I can't really comment on the sound, but what I can hear is what the graphs tells: Less bass and less (upper) mids.
