I never owned headphones from Beyerdynamic and I would like to know how people rate them and compare them to other popular brands like Sennheiser, AKG etc. I am not talking about a specific model but I would be interested to read some general comments regarding their sound signature, quality and build compared to other headphones.

Anyone?

I have the dt770s(I just got them Tuesday) and my first impression is that their great sounding cans.Alot of bass ,real crisp highs, overall good sound for closed cans. And I mean really closed.I can set on the couch with them on and the people beside me cant hear anything.I like them better than my Grado 125s.

Which DT770 version is that? The 80 Ohm or the 250 Ohm model?

The 80 ohm version.I heard their easier to drive than the higher ohm version.Right now I,m using the headphone jack from my Sony reciever, but I want to get a good headphone amp for them.I'm just not sure which one.

The DT880 is the best Beyer by far.

IMO:

I like DT770-80 over my HD-600, but im

About build quality, the HD-600 seems much stronger built but the DT770's don't feel like they are going to break in your hands/head either, they just look weaker.

Sound quality hmm, well it's not quite HD-600 but it's a lot more exciting and music has more feeling.

Lots of bass and good non-tiring sound, I like them.

I got the Dt 880s a few months back , they are the best cans i have heard , i do have an old pair of Sennheiser Hd 500s but the Beyers are in a different class , i must admit i do like the Sennheiser 500 series sound in fact i may look at getting a pair of HD 580s as well as the Beyers , i really can't afford the 600s , and from what other members have said there is not a great deal of difference between the 600s and the 580s ? cheers.

I have both the DT 531 and DT770/80 and they are both great cans. Lots of bass out of both of them and extremely comfortable. They are as comfortable as the Sony CD3000 and the Audio Technica A700's or woodies that I also have. Some would prefer the velour pads over the pleather pads because of the sweat factor during the warmer months. They are also have a warmer sound than both the AT and Sony cans. Both the DT 531 and DT770/80 IMO can be easily driven without an amp.

I've had dt531 , dt990 , dt770 ( and will try dt880 a day to end the journey )

what to say ...

I'd say that beyerd. have a sound signature , they are very good with rock tracks and everykind of music that need bass - the signature is this , they provide a deep pumping bass .

DT990 need some EQ but , this apart , they are extremely overlooked here and incredible sounding ( they're the open verison of dt770 )

Dt 531 : are like babies DT990 , with a lot less bass and some shrill highs . Anyhow well balanced for rock .
I'd define them funky.

If i had to buy a beyer I'd go with dt860 / 880 , at the moment they seem the best of the line and they carry quite different signature .

Almost bought the DT660. They felt to be better constructed than Sennheisers and I preferred its brighter characteristic than HD595. As a closed set, It was surprisingly open when comparing to other closed cans like A900. The head band seemed to be the only weak point, though it felt sturdy enough for the long haul.

The only downside personally, is they are overall very large and did not fit my warped and weirdo head.

My experience is the the DT880s, which some here consider more comparable to the HD600 and less typical of the Beyer "house sound." I can't say.

I'd agree that the DT880 is warm in sound compared to the A900, and I would add better balanced across the sound spectrum. The base is present, ample and controlled. The overall sound is more forward and brighter than the Senn 5XX and 6XX. I'd describe the Beyers as having greater presence than the Senns, and I find them more involving. I do find the DT880s to be on the "slow" side, particularly in comparison with the crispness of the K501s. Oh, I also prefer the Beyers with a tube amp, probably because the two strike me as synergistic.

Hope this helps.

I love my DT531's

Although I must say they are the only "decent" headphones I've ever listened to!

I'll have more of an idea after the UK Meet this weekend, once I've listened to some other types!
