600ohm versions are only available through the Manufacture/Manufaktur feature on the Beyerdynamic website....

I also got the 32 ohm 990 for $270 at meier, should be getting it this week. I wonder if the 32 ohm to 250 ohm difference is less than the difference between the 250 to 600 ohm models? People should bring these different impedance models and compare them at a meet or something

This would be the cheapest way to try the 600 ohms version......

Well, one way would be to put around 400 ohm's worth of resistance in a cable/plug/ whatever
How i wouldn't know.. Complete electrical noob

Same here

But search for posts containing "podectomy" by jSatch. He played around with it looking for exactly the sound he liked (albeit with iM716's instead of the cans in this topic).

Hmmm. Actually, after I'd seen what's involved I found someone else to do it for me

One of the reasons I also love the DT990(05) is the whole low-volume listening phenomenon. I do not listen loudly, and as such, the DT990's really are fantastic. Headphones that have to be played loudly to have any bass impact are just not for me. The DT990's are fantastic for folks like me who keep the volume on the low side.

Awesome! Yeah that's one of the reasons I am selling my Grado's. Sometimes I wished for deeper bass and I would crank the volume and after an hour or so I would be fatiged.

Whoever said that should come out and explain what he/she means by significanly better.
IMO it would be hard to tell them apart (as it is with 32 and 250ohm) except volume setting on the amp will be in different position.
600 ohm cans still have place in recording studios and Beyer are making sure that this market segment is covered.

Well, I just got an email from Jan Meier, he told me that there is no way no build a resistor to increase the impedance of the headphones because the difference is in the driver's coil.

He also said that the DT990s are very fine headphones and he does not think I am missing anything with the 250 ohm ones.

Wow, you want a jaw dropper with this headphones? just listen to The John Scofield Band's "Uberjam". Wow, the soundstage, the 3D sound , the BASS!!!, DEEEEEP!!

I see you use your dt990'05 with your Corda Aria. Is what you said true with your Corda Headfive, too? That's the amp I currently have, and with my dt770/80, I have to crank the volume wayyy up to have the bass tighten up, and play proportionally with the soundstage and the other frequencies. I can't have none of this, because that volume is way above my normal level of listening. So I was wondering if I had to get the 32 ohm ver. of the dt990'05, or if the 250 ohm ver.(the cheapest) would be alright with my amp. I don't want to have to crank the volume way up in order to hear tight, nice bass that isn't all over the place=]

Hey Mariowarrior=]
Mind if I ask what amp you're using with your dt990'05? Ty

denl82, I have an Emmeline Xp7 which drives them PERFECTLY WELL. I never ever can listen louder than 10 oclock. Additionally, I can hear deep and excellent bass at 8 oclock, which is wonderful considering that zero is at 7 oclock.

I enjoy the DT990's with both my Aria and Headfive. I think they sound a little better with the Aria, but they sound very good with both, and have no trouble driving my 250 ohm versions.
