I owned the T1.2 and T1.3’s and the DT-1990’s are my favorite Beyerdynamic headphones.I have a new pair of DT 1990 coming in today. They are stupid expensive in my country. You guys with your discount prices are very lucky. I own the T1.2 interested to see how they compare. Since I paid full price plus I am expecting Beyer to discontinue this model and come out with a replacement very soon. It has been about 6 years for these. I don't have any special info but it seems logical time for a replacement/upgrade. Usually happens when I order at full price. I have 3 different tube amps to try with this so we shall see.

Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO // DT 1990 PRO MK II -- Impressions Thread

The DT1990 sounds great with all my amps but I like it best with tubes. (Woo WA2, BH S.3.X., BH Crack/SB, Topping A90, SMSL SP200)
I would go so far as to say that the DT-1990s with the analytical pads are closer to the original T1s than either the T1.2 or (especially) the T1.3…
Agreed, with the analytical pads, the DT-1990’s sound so lively and dynamic. Love their sound on my setup.I would go so far as to say that the DT-1990s with the analytical pads are closer to the original T1s than either the T1.2 or (especially) the T1.3…
I agree, the DT 1990 with analytical pads is more akin to the T1.1. The Amiron Home on the other hand is quite similar to the T1.2. The T1.3 is it’s own animal.I would go so far as to say that the DT-1990s with the analytical pads are closer to the original T1s than either the T1.2 or (especially) the T1.3…
So to keep simple.
Get the DT 1990 W/ analytical pads if you want a T1.1 type sound.
Get the Amiron Home if you want the T1.2 sound.
And if you want something unique/bassy/warm go for the T1.3.
If you’re allergic to treble get the T5.3.

Mine arrived. With the "B" balanced pads supplied mounted I thought I was hearing far too much bass and it was also affecting the lower mids. Not my thing but I can see for some into rock, hip hop or other base heavy music it might ring your bell. I listen mostly to classical music and it was way off the neutral sound I look for. I changed it to the "A" pads and the sound was glorious. I am listening to them as I write this. I have owned the T1.1 and I now have the T1.2 as well as several other headphones. These are for sure a keeper. Clearer and better tone than the original T1 and different enough from the T1.2 (possibly better than the T1.2). I am using a Cayin tube amp today and the sound stage is excellent. No it is not the exaggerated stage of the HD800 (which I sold) it is far more precise and realistic. Not everything huge like the HD800. Gives a real sense of the recording space. Very pleased with these. I have several replacement earpads on the way to try. After all this is a hobby.

I've been hesitant to buy these. It seems like people either love em or hate em. I have a pair of Focal Clear Pro originals and a pair of Avantone Planar headphones. I'd like to buy a few more pairs of headphones, after all this is a hobby! The people that like them really like them.Mine arrived. I have the 1990s and the Amiron Home, and both are great headphones. I like the 1990s for more "spacious" music like jazz, classical (including movie soundtracks), and some well mixed progressive rock. The Amiron Home, to me, is better for more "dense" music (classic rock, metal, etc.) and really excellent for pretty much any live music.

I prefer the balanced pads so far, but to be fair, I haven't spent much time with the analytical pads yet.

Oh this one is easyWhat makes them different, better than DT990pro?

1. SUB-bass
2. Mids are not pushed back, is it is not a V-shaped headphone
3. Less pricing treble
4. easy to drive...
To put this into more perspective:
The DT990pro has a phenomenal ability to put distance between instruments and single nots. You get a sense of space with them and that’s all great.
This “space” between the single instruments is with the DT990pro filed with “nothing”.
Now, with the DT1990, you how the same spacing and distance between instruments, but all of a sudden there is details between single nots. More often then not you will hear subbass between single notes. You can say that the space between the instruments gets "filled out."
Now when it comes to the “mids” it gets much clearer. Listening to “Black Symphony” from Within Temptation, on the DT990pro, you will have a really hard time hearing detail in Sharon’s voice, as there is A LOT going on, with trumpets, violins, drums and so on…
Link to youtube – not for the sound, but so you have a idea what I mean
BUT – with the DT1990, her voice gets pushed into the front, and the orchestra will be behind her. ( as it should be, as she is the lead singer right? ). But what is really good is, that you will not lose detail from the orchestra, because of the 7-10k rise in frequency response

And lastly, it’s EASY to drive. As in a dragonfly red, or a Fiio BRT5 will drive it no problems.
Hope that answers your question.
