Am i the only one looking forward to a possible DT-1880? The DT1770 was presented in August last year so i hope BD will have something new this year. Lets start the rumors and discussion.

I'm also looking forward to this! Love the DT880 and cant wait for the possibility of a Tesla powered version. Literally just bought a T1 a minute ago hoping that it would be just that. If the possible DT1880 had the same stylings as the DT1770 i may as well sell my T1 and grab that instead.

I read in another thread that there would be no DT-1880, but who really knows (except perhaps some Beyer people)?!

Still nothing huh?

Seems its not that easy to best the 880. 1770 didn't cut it - not much better just different thatn the 770. 1990 - ok.

Waiting for something real from Beyer - if they **** up th 1880 .... bad.

Did you hear the DT1990 Pro?

No need for the 1880 pro with the 2 different earpads the DT1990 comes with you get a slightly warmer sound for the lovers of the DT990, and the colder more analytical pads for the DT880 fans.

I consider myself one of the biggest beyer fans in the world... and I agree with this 100%. The DT1990 is like a DT880 just improved in every possible way. I personally think it shares very little with the DT990 except for the nice subbass boost with the B pads. Imagine a DT880/600 with smoother treble, wider soundstage, more transparent mids and more bass presence and you've got a DT1990.

but the dt880 didnt need more bass presence D: Who even knows if the dt1880 is in their pipeline. between the 1770 and the 1990 they kind of have their bases covered. And if youre looking for that reference signature, the T1 is just a couple hundred more..

I'm a huge fan of the DT880. Especially 600 ohm. On certain EDM tracks and pop songs, the extra bass of the DT1990 is AMAZING. Especially since it doesn't affect the mids.

If you see the pictures of inside the DT1990 it could almost be classified as semi-open- although the design on the earcup looks like the whole back of the earcup is perforated like a typical open-back , IIRC the inside of the cup is just a small circle of holes in the centre, it wouldn't seem to allow significantly more free air movement than some designs I have seen called semi-open at least.

I am curious what they woudl do with DT1880... I have read the 770/880/990 variations all used the same driver, though not sure if that is actually true or not.

The driver is the same, but the DT770 has a foam damper on the back:

Whereas the DT880 and DT990 have mesh:

Exactly, the DT 1990 with analytical pads is the upgraded DT 880. And if you look at the design of the DT 1990's, it's grill design is inspired by the original DT 880. Picture for reference. Just as the Amiron Home's design draws inspiration from the Revox 3100(a vintage OEM headphone made by Beyer).
