Hi.

Will Beyerdynamic DT 1770 (250 ohms) be able to be powered from a source that has a listed rating of 100 mW + 100 mW @ 32 ohm?

Would it be recommended to go to a lesser model like the DT 770 (80 ohms) to play it safe?

Thanks

I would prefer 500 mw or way higher

The DT770 80-Ohm to sound it's best, would need just as much power as the DT1770 250-Ohm.
I would say to skip on the DT770 series, as the Soundmagic HP151 headphone is like an improved DT770.
I would say to get the DT1770.

DT1770? But my TEAC UD-301 won’t power it?

What he's saying is the sensitivity is identical on both versions, so they need the same amount of power. It's just that amps deliver a different amount of power at different impedance loads.

As for power...you'll need around 256mW to have a lot of headroom.

So in other words...it can run it but in the sense that a midsize sedan can still get a speeding ticket even with a 2.0L engine in it, but there's a reason why the 5-series cabs in Munich use those small engines while the M5 uses a V10.

I'm fairly sure your Teac UD-301 can drive the 250-Ohm DT1770.
My $25 FiiO portable headphone amplifier (battery powered) can decently drive my 250-Ohm headphones (with volume control maxed out).
And I'm sure your Teac offers a fair bit more power.
