Which headphone has a stronger bass, DT 770 or DT 990? I'm looking into buying the new 2005 versions. This would be my first set of quality headphones.

Also are the DT 770 or DT 990 comparable to the SENN HD 650 or AKG k701 in terms of overall sound quality (not just bass)?

The 650 and 701 will whip the DT770/990 in terms of being a 'hi-fi' set of headphones, which means more towards the neutral side, whether you like this or not is up to you. The 650/701's are more towards the reference side and the DT's are on the fun side of the spectrum.

Ditto the DT770. But my HD650's sit collecting dust while I wear the earpads off my Dt770's

The 990 is way boomier... it reminded me of the DT770 before it burned in and tightened up. Fun, yes... but not worth more than the DT770.

i would choose the dt770 if you are on a tight budget, but the frequency response of the 990's is way better than 700's. The only advantage of the 700's is the sound isolation they have.

For a closed phone, the DT770/600 ohm is nearly perfect, not quite as smooth as the Denon D2000, but better detail and transient response, IF you have an amp that can drive them. (I have not heard the higher-end Denons, they could be better, nor the high-end closed AD's).

I used to use Pro 750s with custom re-cable as my "go to" closed phone, but the 770/600 suits me way better.

the first thing he stated was that he never heard it and hes just going by what he has read on these forums, thats why he says considered. i dont think he really recommended anything.
