I'd say the DT880, for sure. Nice and bright, great lively compliment to the dark tone of the HD650.

yeah i've considered the sonys before...they seem really nice.

what cans are good for techno/pop?

i like my 650s and 485s so far for hip hop/rap, but think i need something different for other types of music.

Try a mint used Sony MDR-CD3000 or Audio Technica ATH-W1000. They compliment HD-650 quite well.

I would say you try out the SA5000. IMO it compliments the 650's really well, and kinda gives you things in a Sony perspective. A very fast and fun sounding can, but its sonic attributes can also change based on equipment pairing.

The DT880 are pretty polar opposite of the HD650, but without going to the dangerous degree of the SA5000. I like the 5k, but it needs a very different sort of setup from the HD650, whereas the DT880 can probably absorb it as well as give you some elements you're familiar with while giving you a very different perspective still.

You could also try the AKG K701 if you want. It's kind of a more in between route, but I think it stands on its own as a distinct and respectable headphone. The Sony CD3000 suggestion, IMHO, may also be a good one.

AGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

The word you guys are looking for is complement! I can take one mis-spelling, even two, but four, all by different people, is pushing it!

What is wrong with the state of grammar/spelling in this country?

Maybe everyone is afraid his HD-650s will be upset by another headphone in the house. In that case, the newcomer needs to be able to praise the ruler of the roost.

I think the DT880s would be a nice compliment to the HD650s as well. They are definitely a brighter can.

I'd be more inclined to go the 990. The 880 is different than the 650 but not really in a direction stand point. When well driven the 650 is full dynamic can if a little withdrawn due to lower treble energy.

The 880 is treble hot yet further withdrawn, more distant, drier and though extended not energetic. So if the direction you want to take the 650 sound is more distant and less dynamic the 880 suits the bill. The 990 is a more involving headphone, not 'neutral' but definitely more energy.

Could always stay with Senn and get the 595 or try Grado for the original Head-Fi 2 Team
