Title says it all. I found my collection of CDs over the weekend, and want to re-rip them in higher than mp3/cd quality through Windows media player.

Which software should I use to get the best experience and quality?
Do I need more than the cheap, 5+ yr old usb CD player to rip with?
Should I rip them all to FLAC, or something else?

I’ll be listening at my PC mostly, but also my phone (iOS/Android) and iPad.

I definitely don’t want to spend very much, but I do want some higher quality music.

Look into Exact Audio Copy for ripping on Windows. As long as your player doesn't error, it's likely fine.

If Windows Media Player will rip (I think it does) then you have all you need.

I second the EAC. WMP will rip to flac as well.

As long as your CD Player works, it should be enough.

FLAC for CD rip would be best option imo for quality and compatibility.

Here is an another discussion with few other software options.

I like the Foobar2000 for CD to FLAC. It’s much faster than EAC.
