I'm not very familiar with LODs, or what you send the line-out to. Do you guys just plug it into your home theater or something? I'm looking for something that won't be tremendously loud (I'm in a dorm), but is still better than the run of the mill speaker-dock. I don't really have a budget as of yet, so feel free to just throw some options out there. Thanks folks.

i am using an Altec Lansing iMT620 for docking my ipod touch for music playback. very sweet midrange, very musical. i got it used at around 30usd at hong kong though, so its bang for buck to me.

LOD isn't what you send line-out to, it's what you send line-out through.

Do you have speakers, or you want speakers that you can dock your iPhone on?

I have an Apple TV and I use Airplay to send all my music from my Ipad2, Ipod Touch, Iphone 3G to the Apple TV wirelessly. From the Apple TV, I use optical output to my Onkyo integrated . From my Onkyo integrated , I use the Def Tech SM 450 speakers. I cannot complaint about the SQ. Yes, I know, it's not SQ of  CDs/ SACDs but all in all with the convenience of the set up. I love it.
